Course Description

The psychology and practice of supporting the strengths and talents of all students across educational and community settings. Strength and talent-based programs and activities, assessments to discover student strengths and talents, classroom adaptations, application of strength and talent-based approaches to curriculum design.

Location: Chisasibi

Travel, taxi/mileage, accommodation and per diems from Montreal are covered by the Office for instructors who require it.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education

• Master’s or PhD in Educational Psychology, Human Development, Applied Psychology, Child Development, Clinical Psychology, or equivalent 
• In exceptional circumstances, applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered

Experience

• Knowledge of educational and psychological theories 
• Knowledge of the application of educational and psychological theories to authentic settings
•  Experience in college/university teaching in this subject or professional experience in teaching K-12
• Knowledge of Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur (MELS) requirements Knowledge of the concepts of Inclusive Education
• Training and experience working in schools with students with diverse needs
• Expert knowledge of course content as outlined in the course description.
• Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.
• Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation Knowledge of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Experience as a teacher, administrator, or consultant in the partnering school system for which this course is being delivered.
• Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary school system
• Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers.
• Previous successful experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.
• Experience developing curriculum, instructional approaches and/or policy grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.

Other

• Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field.
•  The course instructor is expected to demonstrate capacity and willingness to modify the course to the educational, social, and cultural context of the community in which it is being delivered.
•  Availability to participate in course coordination and planning activities prior to the course start date (approximately two weeks in advance; online format).
• Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts, for example through prior teaching, community engagement, or relevant academic or professional work.

Effective dates of the appointment are June 22 - July 28, 2026. Course dates are July 06 -14, 2026.
