Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):
Education
Master educator with a minimum completed master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Indigenous education, curriculum and instruction, educational studies, or related fields); PhD preferred.
Strong grounding in Indigenous education, including Indigenous pedagogies, knowledge systems, and curricular approaches.
Experience
- Experience working with and in partnership with Indigenous communities, organizations, and/or educators.
- Experience engaging with Indigenous knowledge holders, Elders, or community partners in educational contexts.
- Experience with community-engaged, relational approaches to Indigenous education.
- Experience supporting educators or teacher candidates in integrating Indigenous perspectives into curriculum and pedagogy.
- Expert knowledge of:
Diverse social, cultural, linguistic, political, and pedagogical histories of Indigenous communities.
Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and learning, and their implications for teaching and curriculum.
Historical and ongoing impacts of colonization, including residential schools, treaties, and settler-Indigenous relations.
Indigenous pedagogies, including relational, land-based, arts-based, and community-engaged approaches.
Approaches to integrating Indigenous perspectives, knowledges, and voices into curriculum and classroom practice.
Ethical, relational, and community-informed approaches to teaching Indigenous content.
Culturally responsive and decolonizing approaches to education.
The Québec Education Program (QEP) and professional competencies as they relate to Indigenous education.
- Experience facilitating reflective, discussion-based, and relational learning environments.
- Experience supporting students in critically examining their own positionality and professional identity in relation to Indigenous education.
- Experience integrating experiential and inquiry-based approaches into teaching (e.g., community engagement, arts-based work, land-based learning).
- Experience as a teacher in the Quebec educational system is an asset.
Other
Knowledge of the impact and experience integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion
Familiarity using myCourses, Zoom and/or other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences
Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools
Familiarity teaching blended classes
Instruction in this course may be delivered remotely if indicated as required by the university.
