Course Description

Familiarizes students with major environmental issues, engages them in interdisciplinary problem-based inquiries and draws attention to the interrelatedness of biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem. Promotes understanding of the impact of individual and collective civic and economic choices on environmental resources.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education

  • A Master’s degree (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered).

Experience

  • Expert knowledge of course content as outlined in the course description.
  • Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.
  • Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation
  • Experience as an administrator or consultant in the partnering school board for which this course is being delivered.
  • Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary school system.
  • Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers.
  • Previous successful experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.
  • Experience developing policy grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.
  • Knowledge of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Other

  • Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field.
  •  The course instructor is expected to demonstrate capacity and willingness to modify the course to the educational, social, and cultural context of the community in which it is being delivered.
  •  Availability to participate in course coordination and planning activities prior to the course start date (approximately two weeks in advance; online format).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts, for example through prior teaching, community engagement, or relevant academic or professional work.

Effective dates of the appointment are July 02 - August 06, 2026. Course dates are July 16 - 23, 2026.
