As the Country Medical Director (CMD), you are the local delegate of authority for Roche’s Pharma Chief Medical Officer and a vital member of the affiliate’s leadership team. You will drive scientific, medical, and clinical excellence by providing strategic leadership and fostering continuous engagement with the scientific community and healthcare ecosystem.
Your primary goal is to accelerate the adoption of transformative medicines as the standard of care while ensuring absolute medical compliance and superior patient outcomes. You will foster a high-performance culture, serving as a role model for our VACC (Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, Coach) framework to empower the Medical team and ensure our portfolio remains centered on patients and anchored in science.
Key Challenges
Strategic Ecosystem Leadership: You must balance long-term enterprise strategy with immediate business objectives, acting as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders (politicians, policy makers, and media) to drive positive healthcare system changes.
Complex Compliance Oversight: You are accountable for the "License to Operate" (LTO), integrating functions like clinical operations, regulatory, quality, and safety to ensure adherence to global and local regulations.
Digital Innovation: Navigating the high complexity and compliance risks of developing local Digital Health solutions while ensuring a solid return on investment.
Matrix Influence: Leading cross-functionally across five Therapeutic Areas and 11 Diseases, ensuring that local scientific activities effectively catalyze clinical practice adoption and broad access.
Resource Prioritization: Radically simplifying and prioritizing resources to ensure timely input into global asset and disease strategies.
You are a visionary leader who puts the patient first in every decision. You possess a growth mindset, are obsessed with meeting customer needs, and act with a sense of urgency to bring the best ideas to life.
Your Experience & Qualifications:
Medical Degree is essential; however, relevant alternative qualifications such as a PharmD or PhD with supporting experience may be considered.
Profound Medical Affairs experience (minimum >5–10 years depending on level/region), with a deep understanding of drug development, commercialization, and medical compliance (GCP, GVP).
Strategic Acumen: Solid understanding of the local healthcare system, including regulatory and payer environments.
Collaborative Mindset: Proven ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment with shared accountability.
Communication Excellence: Fluent in English with the ability to negotiate and present to diverse stakeholders.
Technical Edge: Board certification in priority Therapeutic Areas or expertise in Digital Health is considered a significant plus.
