Counsellor/Project Officer | Time for Grandparents Program | Chermside

  • Employment Term: Permanent Part-Time (68.4 hours per fortnight)  

  • Location: Chermside

  • Remuneration: $51 p/hr + Super + NFP Salary Packaging (save tax and increase your take home pay)

The Counsellor/Project Officer is a newly created position within the Time for Grandparents program. The Time for Grandparents is part of the Older Persons Program and assists Grandparents raising grandchildren in Queensland.

The Counsellor/Project Officer will provide case management and family support services for families accessing the Time for Grandparents Program and complete project works.

Your part in our UnitingCare team 

  • Work with families accessing brokerage within the Time for Grandparents program to identify strengths and support them in applying for activities.

  • Attend the Time for Grandparent camps supporting the Specialised Case Worker in charge of camp co-ordination, and other Time for Grandparents program activities.

  • Provide counselling support to grandparents focusing on social isolation, strengthening their capacity and relationships with the child or young person and other presenting issues.

  • Develop and coordinate partnerships with key service providers and key stakeholders in Queensland including those in rural and remote areas.

  • Develop and deliver strategies to support culturally sensitive and appropriate Grandfamily camps in collaboration with the Specialised Case Worker, Service Leader and Service Manager.

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and review of programs/projects for young people and grandparents and prepare reports as directed by service manager.

What makes a difference for us?

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work or Counselling

  • Demonstrated experience in trauma informed counselling practice and crisis intervention.

  • Demonstrated skills and sound knowledge gained through experience working with children and families with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in this area of work.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and cultures from an historical and contemporary perspective

  • Demonstrated ability to work with people across the lifespan, particularly those who are at risk and/or disadvantaged.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct project work related to service delivery

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate, engage and support group processes and individual work with young people and grandparents using an older person-centred and strengths-based practice framework

  • Demonstrated ability to support staff in their roles by mentoring and role modelling culturally appropriate service delivery.

  • Demonstrated high level of initiative in decision making and problem solving especially in crisis situations as well as the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

  • Current First Aid / CPR Certificate or willing to obtain during commencement of employment.
