Project

Kwinana Energy Recovery is Australia’s first large-scale waste-to-energy facility, transforming waste into reliable baseload renewable energy while supporting the circular economy. Diverting up to 460,000 tonnes of waste annually from landfill, the facility will generate 38 megawatts of baseload power, enough for over 50,000 households while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 400,000 tonnes per year.

Position

The Cost Controller will lead cost control and financial performance across the Kwinana Waste to Energy Facility, providing clear cost visibility, accurate forecasting, and high-quality financial insight to support operational and commercial decision‑making.

Working on site at Kwinana, you will play a pivotal, hands-on role, partnering closely with operations, finance, commercial, and project controls teams to ensure disciplined cost management and decisions-ready reporting.

This role suits a cost professional who enjoys owning outcomes, working with complex operational environments, and influencing decisions through sound financial insight.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Own activity‑level cost reporting, variance analysis, detailed forecasts, and substantiation of monthly cost and claim reporting.
  • Support and maintaining Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Delegated Authority frameworks, working closely with commercial and cost management functions to ensure strong  financial governance across operations.
  • Track, control and forecast Operational & Maintenance costs against approved budgets, proactively identifying cost drivers, trends and emerging risks.
  • Support month-end cost reporting, financial close and reconciliation processes.
  • Assist with cash flow tracking, forecasting and financial reporting as required.
  • Support internal and external audits, assurance activities and internal financial reviews.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Tertiary qualified in Commerce, Finance, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of cost control, project controls or accounting roles within construction, infrastructure, energy or industrial project environments.
  • Strong capability in of cost tracking, forecasting, variance analysis and financial reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP or cost control systems (SAP highly regarded)
  • Ability to clearly explain cost movements, forecast changes, and financial performance to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
