These positions are only available for current employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections, BPPPS, OCE.
This position is a job rotation anticipated to last 6 months, though may be extended or decreased due to business need. This rotation available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Corrections Enterprises, or Oregon Board of Parole, Probation, and Post-Prison Supervision with their current manger's approval.
About the Job – Your Role
As a WOC Correctional Lieutenant, you will fill the position as a senior security staff member responsible for overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody while upholding the mission of the Department. Lieutenants supervise an entire shift of Security staff, assigning staff as institution-needs dictate, providing direction and instruction, makes operational decisions impacting the facility and maintains security at all times by ensuring staff follow and enforce established Department of Corrections Rules and Procedures, Institutional Procedures, Post Orders, and Administrative Directives.

This position is management services and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Eligibility Requirements:
The candidate is not on any active disciplinary actions or corrective measures.
The candidate is current on all required trainings and certifications.
The candidate has completed any probationary period in the candidate’s current role.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in a correctional security setting where primary duties were the care and custody of inmates. One year of which must have been at the level of a Sergeant in a correctional system.
Have or be able to obtain, within two weeks, an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate OR a Correctional Certificate from another government agency;
Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate;
Be 21 years of age or older;
United States Citizen.
Education will not be accepted as a substitute for the required experience.
Special Qualifications
Ability to obtain a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator's license.
Regular attendance is a requirement of this position.

Working Conditions
This position works inside a secure adult correctional facility. Ability to operate walk-through and hand-held metal detectors, two-way radios, mechanical and electrical locking devices, firearms, emergency equipment, and transport and patrol vehicles. Additionally, the incumbent must possess and demonstrate sound leadership abilities, good interpersonal skills, and have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; have the ability to exercise good judgment and use common sense. Ability to frequently traverse four (4) flights of stairs (open stairways) of multiple buildings within the secure perimeter of the institution, which are exposed to inclement weather conditions, including rain, ice, and snow.

About the Process – What to Expect
After the application deadline, a recruiter will review submissions to determine who meets the eligibility requirements and minimum qualifications.
Eligible candidates will be invited to complete a written assessment, at a scheduled date and location.
Interviews will be held with a panel of stakeholders who have completed panel assessment training. Scores will be determined based on predetermined questions and scoring guides. Preferences points will be applied in compliance with relevant laws and bargaining agreements. There may be multiple rounds of interviews.
Final candidates will have a background check, PREA check, and reference checks.

Requirements for Employment
The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.
