General Accountability
The Corporate Underwriting Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst is responsible for supporting the analysis and evaluation of underwriting quality, consistency, and adherence to underwriting guidelines, authorities, policies, standards, and applicable regulatory requirements within Commercial or Personal Lines. The role conducts underwriting file reviews and broker quality audits, analyzes trends and quality gaps, and prepares evidence-based findings and reporting inputs to support continuous improvement, training priorities, and compliance outcomes. Through specialized underwriting quality analysis and independent evaluation, the position supports management and leadership decision-making. Working collaboratively with Underwriting Operations, Corporate Underwriting, Training, Compliance, and other stakeholders, the role contributes to the consistent application of underwriting standards and the maintenance of quality monitoring tools and reporting that strengthens a culture of underwriting excellence.
Key Accountabilities

Underwriting Quality Assurance Program Execution
Conducts independent underwriting file reviews and broker quality audits in accordance with established QA methodology, audit criteria, quality definitions, service targets and documentation standards.
Applies underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and defined risk standards to assess underwriting decisions for adherence, consistency and completeness of supporting documentation.
Completes required audit tools and documentation (e.g. scoring/rating, error classifications, evidence capture) accurately and consistently to support defensible QA outcomes.
Communicates with Underwriting Operations to obtain clarification; missing information or documentation required to complete the quality reviews.
Participates in calibration activities to support consistency in quality assessments across reviewers.
Identifies opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of QA review activities (e.g., templates, checklists, workflow steps) and provides improvement suggestions to QA leadership.
Analysis, Monitoring and Reporting
Compiles audit results and analyzes data to identify quality trends, recurring error patterns and emerging risks (e.g. by transaction type, risk type, region, broker, and processing type).
Prepares reporting inputs and summaries (weekly/monthly) to support quality performance monitoring, Key Quality Indicators (KQI), Key Performance Indicators (KPI) reporting, dashboards, and governance discussions.
Identifies themes that indicate process gaps, training needs, documentation weaknesses, or system/workflow issues and escalates findings as required.
Supports evidence-based recommendations for operational improvements, including identification of add-value underwriting touchpoints and opportunities for higher or lower automation for specific risk and transaction types.
Supports maintenance of audit tracking and reporting tools that inform QA program monitoring and performance reporting.
Interprets reporting inputs to provide analytical summaries and recommendations to support management and governance decision-making related to underwriting quality, controls, and regulatory compliance.
Audit Support & Regulatory Compliance
Supports internal and external audit readiness by ensuring QA documentation and evidence packages are complete, accurate, and retrievable.
Provides audit evidence and documentation in response to Internal Audit inquiries or follow-up requests (as directed by QA leadership).
Identifies and documents underwriting errors requiring regulated reporting and supports completion of regulated error reporting processes (e.g. Facility Association and/or FSRA for regulated auto), following established templates, procedures and approved escalation pathways.
Ensures information is accessed, used, stored, and shared in compliance with corporate privacy, confidentiality, and information management policies.
Escalates systemic concerns or potential control gaps to QA leadership in accordance with program governance expectations.
Continuous Improvement and Process Support
Collaborates with Corporate Underwriting QA leadership, Underwriting Operations, Corporate Underwriting Specialists, Product Management, Systems partners, Training, Broker Education and Compliance to support remediation actions arising from audit findings.
Shares broker audit findings and trends with Broker Education teams and Broker Representatives to support targeted learning opportunities and continuous improvement across broker partners.
Participates in working sessions and meetings to discuss audit outcomes, trends, and improvement opportunities to strengthen underwriting quality and broker experience.
Researches and summarizes relevant underwriting QA best practices.
Maintains awareness of industry best practices related to underwriting quality assurance and portfolio monitoring
Collaboration and Business Support
Works collaboratively with Underwriting, Corporate Underwriting, Training, Quality Assurance, Compliance, and other internal stakeholders to support consistent underwriting practices and strategy.
Supports quality-related projects and initiatives by contributing analytical inputs, documentation, and reporting for governance, decision, and compliance forums.
Supports stakeholder impact assessments and contributes to change implementation activities related to underwriting quality improvements.
Assists with communication and knowledge sharing related to underwriting quality standards, findings and expectations.
Facilitates meetings and working sessions to present findings, solicit feedback, insights and recommendations.

Proficient knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, audit criteria, and continuous improvement practices for underwriting file reviews and broker audits.
Proficient ability to evaluate underwriting documentation and decisions for alignment with underwriting guidelines, authorities, internal governance standards.
Proficient ability to interpret underwriting system outputs, rating logic, and workflows to distinguish underwriting judgment, system limitations, and process design gaps.
Proficient ability to interpret and apply applicable Canadian P&C regulatory requirements, including regulated auto requirements where applicable, in the context of quality reviews.
Proficient ability to present audit findings and insights visually to varied audiences using Excel, PowerPoint, and similar tools.
Proficient skill in risk-based audit methodology and quality assurance practices, including sampling approaches, calibration participation, and defensible documentation of findings.
Fundamental knowledge of internal control principles and how underwriting quality supports audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
Education & Certifications
Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study, such as Business, Mathematics, Applied Science, or a related discipline, or defined equivalency.
Experience
5 – 7 years’ experience in quality assurance, audit, compliance, or business analytics within the P&C insurance industry.
