About The Position
The Corporate Counsel is responsible for a wide range of matters in the legal practice areas of state regulatory law for electric and natural gas utilities. This position provides legal advice and support to internal Ameren clients relating to the area of specialty.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide legal representation, advice, or support for the organization on matters as requested directly by clients.
Work independently to identify risks and issues and recommend solutions to solve complex problems.
Lead and be accountable for projects.
Oversee or conduct legal research relevant to scope of responsibility.
Manage and coordinate outside counsel handling specific proceedings or issues as authorized.
Identify process improvements and drive change.
Broaden the identification and adoption of continuous improvement opportunities to all aspects of your team.
Identify risks and offer solutions for resolving client projects, working with minimal guidance and building trusted professional relationships throughout the organization.
Incorporate advanced understanding of utility business model and Ameren's corporate structure into legal advice and counsel.
Qualifications:
Corporate Counsel
Juris Doctorate Degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school required. Five or more years of experience in a law firm, corporate legal department or other comparable legal setting with experience in an area of specialty required. Licensed, eligible to practice or able to seek admission in Missouri and/or Illinois required. Proficient knowledge of legal primary practice area required.
Qualifications:
Senior Corporate Counsel
Juris Doctorate Degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school required. Ten or more years of experience in a law firm, corporate legal department or other comparable legal setting with experience in an area of specialty required. Licensed and eligible to practice in Missouri and/or Illinois required. Advanced knowledge of legal primary practice area required.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Strong knowledge and skills with legal software systems (i.e., LEXIS and/or Westlaw) required. Proficiency with general computer skills.

Ameren’s selection process includes a series of interviews and may include a leadership assessment process. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates.
Compensation Range:
$134,700.00 - $250,500.00* This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant’s credentials.
At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
