Why This Role Matters:

We are seeking an in-house counsel to join the RVI Group legal team, with a primary focus on reinsurance matters. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on complex reinsurance transactions and related regulatory issues, while also providing legal support to other business units across the organization in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, along with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. A broad understanding of the insurance and reinsurance industries is essential, as is the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.

This individual must be strategic, business-oriented, financially astute, and highly collaborative, demonstrating sound judgment and professionalism. The successful candidate will uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct in all aspects of their work.

How You'll Contribute:

Contract Drafting:

  • Draft, review, and advise on reinsurance contracts, collateral agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Assist with renewals, amendments, endorsements, and commutations.
  • Partner effectively with internal teams, outside counsel and external stakeholders.

Regulatory and Compliance Support:

  • Advise on reinsurance regulatory requirements in the U.S., Bermuda and elsewhere.
  • Monitor developments in reinsurance law and ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.

Transactional Support:

  • Collaborate with business units on structuring and implementing reinsurance transactions including fronting arrangements, strategic managing general agent partnerships, and retrocessionaire agreements.

Claims and Dispute Resolution:

  • Assist in managing reinsurance claims and disputes, including arbitration, and litigation support.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with business units and the finance team to provide practical legal advice.
  • Support corporate initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Able to pivot and take on new responsibilities in other business units as needed.
  • Partner with business units, such as the Commercial Equipment and Passenger Vehicle teams, to ensure timely and efficient execution of a broad range of corporate and insurance legal tasks.
  • Undertake special projects dependent upon knowledge and experience.
  • Apply consistent legal terms and protections companywide.

What We're Looking For:

  • Law degree from a nationally accredited law school.
  • Two to five years of legal experience with a corporate legal department or a nationally recognized law firm and/or legal experience in property and casualty reinsurance.
  • Prior property and casualty industry work experiences relevant to ensure success as an integral team member of a nimble in-house legal department at a sophisticated and successful specialty (re)insurance company.

This position is classified as hybrid which requires two days per week in the Stamford office.

Compensation:  

 

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $190,000/year plus bonus in our highest geographic market.  Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
