Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Director for Campus Life, the Coordinator for Student Government serves as the primary advisor and will coordinate operations for LSU Student Government (SG). The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the effective daily coordination of Student Government’s business operations, financial processes, programming, and student support initiatives. The Coordinator plays a critical role in providing administrative leadership and advising to Student Government, College Councils, and affiliated committees, while supporting the overall mission of the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life.  Through this work, the Coordinator empowers student leaders, strengthens the student voice at LSU, and ensures that Student Government operates as an effective, ethical, and student-centered organization that advances the needs and interests of the entire student body.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

  • Coordinate daily operations of Student Government, including office administration, student employee supervision and resource coordination.
  • Advise and mentor Student Government leaders across all branches, committees, and College Councils on governance, leadership, and program development.
  • Plan and execute Student Government programs and events, overseeing logistics, budgets, vendors, and risk management.
  • Evaluate and enhance Student Government processes to ensure compliance, quality, and alignment with divisional standards.
  • Support divisional and campus-wide initiatives through participation in major events and collaborative projects.

The Coordinator for Student Government strengthens Student Government’s ability to serve and represent the LSU student body by improving the systems and processes that support effective, accessible, and transparent governance. The Coordinator oversees core SG operations such as elections, appointments, meetings, funding, and policy workflows while supporting student leaders as they navigate university policies and expectations. Through ongoing process improvement and strong partnerships with administrators and campus partners, the Coordinator has the opportunity to help advance Student Government’s credibility as a trusted, student-centered voice for LSU students.

Lead the Development of a Transformational Student Leadership Experience

In addition to daily advising, the Coordinator plays a key role in shaping SG’s leadership culture. The Coordinator will have the opportunity to design and implement developmental experiences such as leadership workshops, officer trainings, retreats, accountability structures, and skill-building sessions that promote confidence, professionalism, and sound decision-making among student leaders. In order to accomplish this, the Coordinator will need to create a cohesive leadership framework that supports students’ growth throughout their time in SG.

Lead Operational Excellence and High-Impact Programming

High quality programming and operational excellence are expectations which must be partnered with thoughtful planning, transparency, and excellence that strengthens SG’s visibility and impact across campus. The Coordinator for Student Government will help elevate the quality, accessibility, and impact of SG’s programs and initiatives. The Coordinator influences how student-facing efforts are designed and delivered, helping SG produce meaningful, student-centered experiences that engage large audiences, empower students to take ownership of planning and execution, and results in high-quality experiences that reflect the needs of LSU’s student body.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Support - 40%

Responsible for the daily operations of Student Government, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and excellent service delivery. Oversees operations for the SG and Senate offices, supervises student employees and a Graduate Assistant, serves as the Student Employment Partner for SG, and oversees recruitment, scheduling, training, and payroll approval. Oversees supply procurement, equipment maintenance, and inventory for SG property. Manages the two SG Print & Geaux Stations and the Student Organization Supply Reservation process to ensure accountability and proper use of resources. Maintains the SG website, coordinates meeting logistics, and ensures organized records and documentation across all SG functions.

Direct Student Support - 25%

Serves as the primary advisor to Student Government, its branches, committees, and College Councils, providing guidance on operations, governance, and programming. Mentors student leaders to build professionalism, accountability, and leadership skills while assisting with navigation of university policies and procedures. Acts as a liaison between students and university administration to foster collaboration and transparency. Promotes a student-centered environment that encourages growth and engagement within the LSU community.

Program Support - 20%

Plans, coordinates, and executes Student Government programs, events, and initiatives that align with university and divisional goals. Oversees event logistics, including vendor coordination, reservations, transportation, and risk management. Assists with marketing, communications, and assessment efforts to enhance the quality and impact of SG programming. Collaborates with campus partners to ensure successful, high-quality student experiences that strengthen campus engagement.

Quality Control - 10%

Ensures consistency, professionalism, and continuous improvement across all SG operations and initiatives. Reviews processes and programs for effectiveness, compliance, and quality assurance. Upholds divisional standards in risk management, accessibility, and communication while maintaining a strong focus on detail and excellence. Ensures all materials and outputs reflect LSU’s mission, values, and commitment to student success.

Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Life and direct supervisor. This includes but is not limited to: efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, organizational leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience advising and supporting student organizations, preferably Student Government.
  • Strong skills in communication, problem solving, financial management, event planning and project coordination.
  • Ability to build relationships, take initiative, and create student-friendly experiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to accuracy and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and supervise student employees.
  • Knowledge of university financial systems and contracting processes.

As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services.
