In this role, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant, and reliable coordination of waste management and utilities activity across the Firebag site.
Minimum Requirements:
Five years' experience in Alberta hazardous and non-hazardous waste management operations and two years of experience in contract management, vendor oversight, or procurement
A diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Technology, Environmental Management, Waste Management, Water/Wastewater, or a related field
WHMIS 2015 certification
Strong working knowledge of Alberta environmental legislation and waste regulations, including AEPA, AER requirements, EPEA, the Waste Control Regulation, and TDG legislation
Ability to interpret contracts, technical waste profiles, regulatory documentation, permits, and approvals
Experience supporting or coordinating water treatment plants or wastewater treatment facilities in an industrial or municipal environment

Responsibilities:
Manage the full lifecycle of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including sludge, sanitary and construction waste, recycling, and onsite ecology pit operations.
Oversee contractor execution, ensuring clear scopes of work, performance monitoring, and timely resolution of operational issues.
Ensure operations, maintenance, inspections, sampling, and corrective actions are completed in accordance with permits, approvals, and site standards.
Support regulatory compliance with AEPA, AER, EPEA, Waste Control Regulation, Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements.
Support RFP development, bid evaluations, and creation of site-specific scopes of work.
Support waste reduction initiatives, including recycling, reuse, and approved onsite treatment solutions.
Assist with environmental and utilities-related incident response, including spills, system failures, and non-compliant discharge or disposal events.
Location and other Key Details:
You will work out of our Firebag location, which is our largest in situ operation and one of the largest in the world (and located 120 km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta)
This is a Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) camp-based position; you will FIFO from a Suncor hub location: Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta
The shift schedule is 14 days on/ 14 days off ,12-hr shifts
