This position, sitting in the Communications Department’s News Bureau will be overseen by the Manager, with additional supportive direction from the Chief Spokesman and Senior Coordinator. This position will help to oversee the execution of the league’s media monitoring and rapid response operation, providing real-time updates to NFL leadership and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be able to track, analyze, measure, and disseminate news coverage and social media activity important to the NFL in a timely fashion and digestible format. As a key member of the News Bureau, the Coordinator will assist in securing positive coverage on league initiatives, events, players, executives, and compelling storylines with both traditional and non-traditional media.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the News Bureau’s media monitors, providing overall support and guidance as well as direction and quality control for daily coverage products
  • Be an analytical force in the media monitoring operation and News Bureau, providing key analysis and reports on the volume, tone, and tenor of coverage
  • Coordinate internal information-gathering for editorial calendar and proactive communication across the league
  • Support the Senior Coordinator across drafting weekly and monthly newsletters geared toward internal and external audiences showcasing positive news across the league
  • Contribute to the News Bureau’s strategic implementation of future-readiness, serving as a key support function in establishing a logistical framework for this new workstream
  • Generate and place stories that reflect the NFL’s values and successes
  • Help plan and execute press conferences, media availabilities, league meetings, executive briefings, etc.
  • Build and maintain relationships with both traditional and non-traditional media

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, sports or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of PR functions including media relations, media monitoring, storytelling and story placement, and news analysis
  • Knowledge of and curiosity in emerging technology such as AI and how it will shape the future of strategic communications.
  • Excellent analytical skills, strategic thinking and proactivity
  • Knowledge of and interest in the NFL, current events and trends in sports media, marketing and business
  • Knowledge of and relationships with key NFL media, and the ability to expand those relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong multitasking skills
  • Ability to proactively identify opportunities to promote NFL initiatives, employing cutting edge communications tools and strategies

Travel:

This position will require travel to key NFL meetings and events, including on some weekends.

Terms / Expected Hours of Work:

  • NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week in the office
  • Will require frequent work on nights, weekends, and holidays

Salary / Pay Range:

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
