DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

As the nation moves to transition its public transit fleets to zero emission platforms, GILLIG is seeking a highly motivated and passionate professional in control systems with strong problem solving and communication skills. This role will perform troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts on our zero emission vehicles at our manufacturing site in Livermore, CA.  This hands-on role within GILLIG will serve as a subject matter expert on the newest and most technologically advanced GILLIG vehicle platforms and technologies. The Controls System Technician for zero emission vehicles is responsible for providing diagnostics and technical support for GILLIG’s portfolio of zero emission vehicles during the manufacturing process, including the initial road tests prior to delivering to our customers.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Qualified candidates will have extensive knowledge of electrical systems, industrial controls or technical support of electric vehicles and be able to effectively utilize a comprehensive suite of computer software/tools to accurately diagnose vehicle related issues. The Controls System Technician will have the goal of resolving complex technical issues on zero emission vehicles in a timely manner. Working regularly with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Product Engineering and Customer Care, as they are trusted to provide detailed information necessary to determine root cause and corrective actions as well as assist in the development of instructions for repetitive repairs.

The Controls System Technician for zero emission vehicles will report directly to GILLIG’s Director of Manufacturing Engineer /Facilities. All candidates must have a passion for problem solving, be willing to continuously learn new troubleshooting and diagnostic technologies and have a strong knowledge of electrical systems, industrial controls, or electric vehicles.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Resolve complex technical issues on recently produced electric vehicles in a timely manner
  • Effectively communicate technical issues on Zero Emission vehicles with Product Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Customer Care
  • Participate in root cause investigations and resolution with cross functional GILLIG teams including Product Engineering, Quality and Customer Care
  • Serve as one of the subject matter experts on the diagnostics and repair for new GILLIG vehicle platforms and technologies
  • Document failure analysis, troubleshooting steps and repair processes to ensure repetitive items can be quickly resolved and corrective actions are put in place to prevent future failures
  • Develop innovative approaches, and processes to improve GILLIG’s diagnostic and troubleshooting ability on zero emission vehicles
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates Degree in Electronic Technology or in a similar related technical field
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in professional and/or military related electronic field
  • Must be a result driven individual with strong problem-solving techniques
  • Experience with documentation of corrective action plans
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics with extensive knowledge in electrical systems architecture as well as machine controls
  • Ability to prioritize workloads with excellent organizational skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to use Telematics, SCADA and/or a comprehensive suite of computer software/tools to accurately diagnose issues 
  • Proficient using analytical tools including VOM (multimeter), oscilloscope, HMI, and circuit analyzers
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk and occasionally kneel or squat
  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work on or near high voltage energy storage systems.
  • Minimal to no travel
  • Standard start time: 5:00am
  • Must be able to navigate manufacturing environment, comfortable around heavy machinery, tools, etc.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment, (i.e. safety glasses, bump caps, hearing protection, etc.)

EXPECTED COMPENSATION

$75,000 - $105,000/annual salary + premium benefits  

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment.
