At Johnson Controls, we are shaping the future of smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings. We are currently hiring a Controls Engineer – Site Dedicated (SE-2) to support a large educational campus in Chicago, Illinois. This is a site dedicated role where you will serve as a key engineering partner for the facility.

What you will do
As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing building automation and control system solutions for a major account. You will translate customer and contract requirements into high-quality engineering deliverables that support successful system installation and long-term facility performance.

Key responsibilities
• Design control system solutions using Microsoft Visio and CCT/SCT design tools
• Develop engineering documentation including sequences of operation, and software programs
• Customize control systems to meet site-specific and customer requirements
• Partner closely with sales, project teams, and customer stakeholders to support accurate system delivery
• Support system start-up, commissioning, and turnover activities as needed
• Follow established quality, safety, and documentation standards

What we are looking for
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 years of controls or systems design experience
• Strong proficiency with mechanical system controls programming
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently on-site while collaborating with broader project teams
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset

Preferred qualifications
• Experience with building automation systems or HVAC controls
• Familiarity with industry protocols such as BACnet
• Previous experience supporting educational, healthcare, or large commercial facilities

Work location
This is an on-site, site-dedicated position based at a large educational facility in Chicago, Illinois. Regular on-site presence is required.

 

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $80k-115k (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
