Boston, Massachusetts, United States Full Time
Join Axon and be a Force for Good.

Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.

Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Your Impact

As our Controllership AI & Automation Transformation Lead, you will lead and deliver targeted AI, analytics, and automation initiatives that improve speed, quality, and scalability of Controllership processes.

You will own discrete projects/workstreams end-to-end, partner closely with Accounting, IT/Engineering, and Internal Audit, and deliver measurable results. This will involve leading meetings with process owners, understanding current state and pain points, defining business requirements, building solutions and using AI and automation tools to develop solutions. The outcome will involve working with IT/data teams, enabling the process owner to learn and build solutions themselves and/or you being hands on building solutions yourself.

What You’ll Do

Location: Boston MA (flexible for other Axon hubs)
Reports to: Director, Chief of Staff (Controllership)

  • Define the AI transformation roadmap for Controllership.
  • Identify and prioritize high-value automation/AI opportunities across Controllership processes (Accounting Operations, Tax, Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, Revenue Accounting, New Product Introduction).
  • Define project scope, requirements, and success metrics; build ROI cases (hours saved, cycle-time reduction, error-rate reduction, rework avoided).
  • Partner with Finance Systems / IT / Engineering to deliver solutions using automation, analytics, and AI/LLM-enabled tooling (e.g., workflow automation, controlled LLM assistance for drafting/analysis, intelligent triage).
  • Build and validate analytics (e.g., SQL-based checks, reconciliation logic, KPI dashboards) to ensure outputs are accurate, explainable, and auditable.
  • Present transformation outcomes to leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Drive project execution: timelines, risks, dependencies, stakeholder updates, UAT coordination, rollout planning, and post-launch stabilization.
  • Serve as internal advisor on AI governance and adoption.
  • Create documentation that supports SOX/audit readiness (process flows, control mapping, test evidence, governance & usage guidelines).
  • Support change management: training, playbooks, and adoption monitoring to ensure solutions are used and sustained.
  • Stay current on AI capabilities and tooling (including developer/productivity tools such as Cursor) and propose pragmatic pilots that improve finance outcomes.

What Success Looks Like

  • Build and deliver a combination of high impact solutions (2–4 larger production-grade improvements per year) and play an integral role in enabling others to build dozens of other smaller improvements across core Controllership processes.
  • Reduction of manual effort in a targeted process by 15–40% (or a defined hours/month goal) while maintaining or improving control quality.
  • Improve close readiness for scoped areas (e.g., fewer late adjustments, fewer deal-review escalations, reduced cycle time for a defined workflow).
  • Zero high-severity audit/control findings attributable to the implemented automation/AI workflow.

What You Bring

  • 6+ years experience delivering measurable business results through data analytics, automation, and/or process transformation in Finance, Accounting, RevOps, or adjacent functions.
  • Strong analytical skills (e.g., Python, SQL preferred) and experience using business intelligence tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power Query).
  • Experience using AI tooling (e.g., Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT) to generate solutions to solve Accounting/Finance related problems.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance.
  • Working knowledge of accounting processes (Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, Record-to-Report) and the ability to partner effectively with Controllership stakeholders across those domains; quickly understand current state and pain points, and translate them into clear business requirements and solution options; experience supporting Revenue Accounting (ASC 606) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated project/program management capability: scoping, planning, execution, stakeholder alignment, and delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; can translate between Finance, technical teams, and business partners.
  • Sound judgment around governance, risk, and controls when introducing automation/AI.
  • Experience with Salesforce, D365, Microsoft Power Platform, or similar finance/CRM ecosystems.
  • Hands-on experience implementing LLM-supported workflows (prompt/playbooks, guardrails, evaluation, adoption measurement).
  • Experience in high-growth, hardware+software, or multi-element arrangement environments.
  • Experience in a role that required rapid context-gathering in stakeholder meetings and guiding non-technical teams to technical solutions.
  • CPA or equivalent; BS in Accounting/Finance or related field is a plus.
