Position Purpose:

As leader of the location Finance team, the Controller will pursue value creating business opportunities as front-line commercial support, improving the sustainable competitive advantage of the organization and provide leadership in developing a strong / aggressive cost culture, through the deployment of Continuous Improvement processes.

The Controller will ensure rigorous control environments exist at the location via focus on all disciplines of audit and compliance with the Expenditure Approval Policy. Also, the position provides and seeks to continuously improve accounting services that assist the location management in achieving plant control, cost, productivity and supply objectives; and to meet all statutory and company accounting and reporting obligations. You, as the controller will also support the growth and development of the people within the Finance dept and will ensure a responsive and professional business support service through the development, coaching, training and effective communication.

Key challenges:

  • Key provider of specific commercial advice across location. 
  • Ensuring the effective flow of commercial based information between corporate and location-based customers.
  • Managing potentially conflicting priorities between the business need for rapid problem solving and commercial principles, practices and regulations.
  • To manage the site business advice and supply teams and to ensure alignment with the regional functional groups.
  • Act as a change agent in achieving business improvement objectives.

Major Activities:

  • Develops and coordinates short and medium range operating plans, goals and objectives for location through the analysis of business opportunities and financial performance data.
  • Provides statutory financial and accounting information along with timely management control data to regional and location management and all levels of plant operating departments.
  • Monitors and reports on plant management performance to ensure that all necessary organization procedures and controls are implemented.
  • Directs the ongoing formal cost improvement process by ensuring that the refinery cost management objectives are achieved.
  • Contributes to the effective and economic use of capital funds, people resources, equipment and materials by analyzing the various functions performed by line and business support departments and recommending improved procedures.
  • Provides materials, equipment and services that are required by the plant at an optimum cost by supervising and participating in the purchase of these inputs.
  • Ensures sufficient holdings of smelter supplies and spare parts at an economic cost, by managing an efficient store operation.
  • Ensures a responsive and professional business support services through the development, coaching, training and effective communication.

What we expect from you:

  • Education Qualifications: Min finance degree (accounting, economics etc.)
  • Experience & Background: 8 – 10 years commercial experience
  • Leadership experience
