About the Role

We seek an experienced Finance & Accounting professional to serve as Controller for Abacus Insights, Inc. The Controller will oversee financial operations for Abacus and its subsidiaries in Nepal and India, lead a team of two, and ensure accurate records in compliance with US GAAP. Key responsibilities include managing accounting close processes, meeting deadlines, preparing and analyzing financial statements, and collaborating with international partners to maintain financial integrity and regulatory compliance.

Your day to day

US Parent Company (Abacus)

  • Lead the preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Manage general ledger, month-end close, internal controls, accounts receivable and payables.
  • Lead Abacus through a US GAAP Financial Statement Audit. Coordinate with our external auditors, E&Y, and tax advisors, that are US based.
  • Support strategic initiatives including M&A, financing and board-level reporting.

Revenue Recognition (ASC 606)

  • Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606.
  • Review customer contracts and service agreements to determine appropriate revenue treatment.
  • Collaborate with legal and sales teams to structure agreements that align with revenue policies.
  • Maintain documentation and audit trails for revenue recognition decisions.

Project Cost Accounting

  • Track and report costs associated with internal and client-facing projects.
  • Implement systems to monitor project budgets, actuals, and profitability.
  • Work with departmental leads to ensure accurate allocation of labor, software, and overhead costs.
  • Provide insights into project performance and cost efficiency.

Accounting Policy Documentation

  • Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure policies are aligned with US GAAP and local regulations in Nepal and India.
  • Train finance team members on policy changes and implementation.
  • Serve as the point of contact for internal and external audits regarding policy interpretation.

Abacus Nepal

  • Ensure compliance with Nepal’s Companies Act and local tax regulations.
  • Oversee financial operations including payroll, invoicing, and cost allocations for managed data services.
  • Collaborate with local finance manager and administrative staff.
  • Review benchmarking reports and intercompany service agreements.
  • Monitor permanent establishment (PE) exposure and implement operational guidelines to mitigate risk.

Abacus India

  • Manage financial reporting and compliance with Indian corporate and tax laws.
  • Oversee software development and consultancy service billing to the US parent company.
  • Ensure accurate intercompany invoicing in USD and adherence to agreed margins.
  • Coordinate with local accounting firms and legal advisors on MSA execution and regulatory filings.

What you bring

  • CPA or Chartered Accountant required
  • 8+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in a multinational US based company or US healthcare technology business.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, IFRS, and international tax principles.
  • Extensive experience working cross functionally with strong business acumen and practicality.
  • Lead a team with great leadership skills. Passionate about coaching and mentoring to team members.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, work independently, prioritize competing workloads, and manage the deliverables from business partners and team members in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to independently analyze transactions and contracts and document the related accounting and finance analysis.
  • Excellent communication, cross-cultural collaboration and leadership skills in managing staff.
  • Experience with NetSuite.

What we would like to see, but not required:

  • Prior experience managing finance across US, Nepal, and India.
  • Familiarity with managed data services business BPO and software development cost structures.
  • Ability to navigate complex intercompany transactions and transfer pricing.
