Job Summary

As a Control Room Supervisor, you will act as the operational nerve centre of our UK1 distribution facility. You will support safe, efficient and compliant warehouse operations by monitoring the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and associated automation and IT systems, coordinating responses to faults and disruptions, and acting as the central point of communication between warehouse teams, maintenance, IT and key stakeholders.

By maintaining real‑time oversight, accurate logs and insightful reporting, you’ll play a pivotal role in minimising downtime, protecting service levels and driving proactive problem‑solving across the operation.

  • Exposure to warehouse automation, WMS, IT and engineering interfaces
  • Opportunity to influence operational performance, reliability and continuous improvement
  • A collaborative working environment with clear processes and structured escalation
  • Competitive pay and benefits, plus development opportunities within Farnell and the wider Avnet group
  • Pension scheme
  • Simply Health Medical Cover
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays with option to buy additional holiday

What will you be doing

  • Monitoring the WMS and warehouse automation systems (such as conveyors, sortation, scanners, printers, RF devices, interfaces and alarms) to detect faults, performance issues and exceptions, taking first‑line action in line with SOPs
  • Acting as the main coordination hub between operations, maintenance, engineering, IT, vendors and other support teams to resolve issues quickly and minimise impact on throughput
  • Logging, categorising, prioritising and tracking incidents, faults and service requests using agreed systems, ensuring accurate, time‑stamped records from identification through to resolution
  • Coordinating attendance and tasking of engineering and IT support, including safe access, lock‑off/isolation processes and system recovery steps
  • Escalating issues in line with agreed escalation paths and SLAs, providing clear impact assessments (safety, service, orders at risk) and ensuring effective shift handovers
  • Producing and sharing routine and ad‑hoc reports covering downtime, fault trends, throughput constraints, backlog and SLA risk
  • Maintaining real‑time awareness of workload, system constraints and planned maintenance, communicating priorities and agreed workarounds to keep operations moving
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, security and data integrity requirements during incidents and recoveries
  • Driving proactive problem‑solving by identifying repeat issues, supporting root cause analysis and recommending improvements to reduce rework and downtime

What about you

  • You’ll typically have 2+ years’ experience in a warehouse control room, operations coordination, WMS support, automation monitoring or another fast‑paced, time‑critical environment
  • Comfortable working with incident/ticket management systems and producing clear operational reports
  • Calm and decisive under pressure, with strong judgement and the ability to balance safety, service and throughput
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail — accuracy of information really matters in this role
  • Confident communicator who can build strong relationships across warehouse operations, IT, engineering and transport
  • Flexible to work a rotating shift pattern fully on-site, providing consistent control room coverage and high‑quality handovers

If this role interests you and you enjoy working in a fast‑paced, technology‑driven warehouse environment, we’d welcome your application. Join Farnell and play a key role in keeping our UK1 operation running safely, efficiently and smoothly.
