Contingent Worker - Bag Helper

Job Description

I.

Purpose

          Stack full cartons of plastic bags on pallets to be prepared for shipment to the customers.

II.

Duties

             Task 1: Carton Taper Maintenance and Prep

  • Change tape rolls as needed:  Tape Roll 1: 12” diameter 2” wide 6 lbs

                                                       Tape Roll 2: 12: diameter 3” wide 10 lbs 

  • Change tape by placing roll of tape on axle and feeding tape through machine. (Staging table with tape rolls is 32”x30”, 29.5” high.)
  • Clear any jams on the automatic conveyor belt; conveyor belt height is 32” on Operating Station #1. (Operating Station #1 has push button operation controls with a screen located at 52-61” high, anti-fatigue mats and minor vibration.)
  • Push boxes along conveyor belt using less than 5 pounds of force.
  • Use tape gun-dispenser to tape top and/or bottom of boxes manually, if they were not taped automatically on the conveyor belt.
  • Trim excess tape from edges of boxes, if needed, using a safety-regulated utility knife.

Task 2: Drop Pallets into Place in Staging Area

  • Retrieve empty pallet from pallet stack. Pallets may be stacked up to 55” high.  Pallets are 40”x48;” weighing 42 pounds.
  • Drag, slide, or carry empty pallets 20-120’ to staging area. Pallets require 41 pounds of force to slide across seamed concrete floors.

Task 3: Palletizing

  • Carry boxes 4’-24’ from conveyor belt to appropriate customer designated pallet in staging area.   
  • Separate boxes according to customer order number on each pallet
  • Stack boxes on pallets 4.5”- 36” high depending on box size.

Box sizes vary, examples:

  • Box size 16”x22”, 6.5 inches high
  • Box size 13”x22”, 8.5 inches high

                 

Task 4: Relabeling of boxes

  • Re-label boxes that come off the conveyor belt without a label.
  • Open the box to determine what product label is needed.
  • Walk to bag machine operator and obtain correct label.
  • Reseal box using hand tape-dispenser and place new label on the box.

Task 5:  Moving Full Pallets

  • Use electric hand-jack to move completed pallet from staging area to holding area. (Approximately 25 to 50 feet)

Task 6:  General Housekeeping

  • Use an ergonomically designated broom to sweep work area according to the Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication (CIL) requirements.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.

Knowledge

1.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work with and interact effectively and professionally with coworkers in a team environment.
  • Good math skills.
  • Must be able to read, understand and stay current with all department work instructions and procedures.
  • Good organization skills.

Responsibility

  • Safety is top priority.
  • Maintain the taping padlock machine and keep the flow of cartons moving so there is no back up of cartons causing bag machines to have to shut down.
  • Comply with all AIB, Safety and Company policies.
  • Be willing to work overtime when needed.
  • Participate and attend on-site employee meetings.
  • Regular attendance is required.
