The Content Specialist is responsible for developing Engineering & Architecture content in PPI products. The Content Specialist works directly with cross-functional teams, including SMEs, to communicate key product vision, specify scope, monitor schedules, and report on and solve issues that arise. In addition to traditional content methods, they develop processes using AI-driven tools and workflows (e.g., Google Gemini, Notebook LM). The Content Specialist sources and on-boards subject matter experts and monitors their deliverables against project scope, providing timely and accurate feedback to achieve content quality and budget goals. The successful candidate has a keen interest in customer satisfaction and business performance, and a strong desire to learn and implement emerging AI technologies.
Primary Responsibilities:
Content & AI Development
Acquire and review exam-like engineering and architectural content for quantitative and qualitative relevance, quality, and accuracy against scope.
Architect & implement custom workflows for AI-supported content tools (e.g., Google Gemini) and low-code applications (e.g. AppSheet) that enable SMEs to automate or simplify content creation and review tasks.
Develop and enforce quality guidelines that meet department standards and project scope.
Use critical reasoning skills to make confident content decisions.
Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Author Coordination
Source, vet, and onboard SMEs, including walking them through the IC or author process and setting clear expectations about project outcomes.
Direct and manage the output of part-time and IC SMEs, providing technical oversight and instruction on AI tool utilization to ensure high-quality content creation.
Work with SMEs and Authors to develop milestones and timelines, managing deliverables against schedule and overcoming obstacles.
Ensure that all SME markup is clear, legible, and submitted using PPI guidelines.
Train errata SMEs to fully correct content the first time they receive customer-reported error reports to minimize future errors.
Negotiate SME compensation that stays within budget and achieves project goals.
Project Management
Lead end-to-end project execution, managing budgets, schedules, and cross-functional communications.
Partner with SMEs to navigate tight deadlines, providing proactive solutions to project roadblocks.
Provide transparent, data-driven status updates to internal stakeholders through weekly reporting and meetings.
Other
Maintain comprehensive process documentation, suggest workflow improvements, and manage administrative tasks such as SME invoicing to ensure organizational efficiency.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Communications, Economics, Business, or related fields
2+ years of Content development, content project management
Experience in higher education publishing preferred.
Licensure/subject knowledge in engineering or architecture a plus but not required.
Generative AI platforms (e.g., Google Gemini, Notebook LM), no-code/low-code development tools (e.g., AppSheet), and AI prompting techniques. Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Gmail). Adobe Acrobat. Microsoft Word.
Ability to quickly learn and experiment with new AI technologies and translate technical processes into easy-to-follow instructions for non-technical users.
Demonstrated interest in AI and automation; comfortable directing others in a fast-paced, evolving technological environment
Ability to receive and respond to constructive criticism
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail
Ability to change focus and prioritize projects based on organization needs

For full-time positions, Kaplan has three Salary Grades. This position is Salary Grade B: $64,819 to $162,047. The specific compensation offered will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, and market data.
