Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Major Duties:

  • Communicate with the Emergency Department and Nursing Staff to arrange patient transfers to other healthcare facilities.
  • Provide administrative support to the Air Evacuation section by monitoring flight manifests for incoming and outgoing patients, and distribute manifests to appropriate staff.
  • Gather demographic data for patient admission and assemble patient ward packets to distribute updated admission and disposition reports.
  • Assist the supervisor in distributing workload among employees to ensure alignment with established workflow and timelines.
  • Instruct employees on specific tasks and job techniques and provide written instructions and reference materials as needed.
  • Prepare and submit written reports to the supervisor of employee’s performance, training needs and disciplinary matters.
  • Verify patient eligibility during admission using the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System.
  • Monitor the message center for updates and communication from wards and hospital staff and relay critical information to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor patient departure times to add data and information in automated health systems.

Specialized Experience: In order to qualify, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative duties in a hospital related to the admission and disposition process, monitoring flight manifests for patient transfers, and entering patient information into automated health systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
