Consumer Loan Specialist

Purpose

The Consumer Lending Specialist (CLS) possesses all the essential knowledge and skillsets of an Associate CLS. The CLS is responsible for providing superior member service while managing and facilitating the loan application process through underwriting and servicing in a contact center environment during regular and extended business hours.

Duties

Receive and assist in the completion of non-real estate related loan applications, while serving as the primary point of contact for applicants during the origination and closing process via phone, digital delivery, email, and chat.

Independently assess and underwrite loan applications including but not limited to applicant(s) credit worthiness, ability to repay, collateral valuation, and organizational risk with the ability/authority to extend credit or deny for consumer loan products within assigned tiered approval lending limits. Communicate approval or denial decisions to members in a clear and professional manner.

Counsel potential borrowers on available services and recommend appropriate lending products, while taking complete and accurate loan related applications.

Exercise lending authority to approve or deny applications in accordance with credit union lending policies and within individually assigned lending limits. Assigned minimum Tier 2 lending limits.

Obtain required documentation to assess loan approval and loan funding.

Properly prepare necessary loan documentation, disclose, and discuss terms and rates of loan agreements while ensuring accuracy.

Through the application process, provide counsel to members on their overall credit worthiness to guide them toward improved credit ratings.

Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all lending products, policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory compliance.

High proficiency displayed in navigation within the Loan Origination System and maintain well documented, easy to review loan application notes.

Serve as a resource for other lenders that lack sufficient approval authority with lending decisions and review of credit applications.

Introduction to consumer lending inbox procedures verification and processing of member supplied loan documents.

Introduction to loan reviews and final auto loan packet reviews prior to member completion. Reviews require thorough audit of underwriting, decisioning, and document verification.    

Independently research and address member inquiries and concerns, offering solutions and guidance with consumer loan servicing needs including but not limited to payments, payoffs, and insurance verification requests.

Knowledgeable in basic Financial Advisory (Insurance, Retirement Planning, Investments, and Trust) and Real Estate services and be able to provide quality referrals.

Support non-lending employees with all consumer loan related needs and ensuring employees have the information needed to comfortably refer all potential applicants to discuss consumer lending opportunities.

Maintain strong adherence to set schedule while exceeding minimal set expectations and meeting established KPIs and metrics for role.

Engage with the community on a regular basis by attending community events to build and maintain loan pipeline.

Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred - 4-year degree, CCUE Certification, or Associate in Arts degree or Associate in Science degree via the North Carolina College Transfer Program (NC-CTP).

Minimum of 2 years’ directly related lending experience required. 

Must possess the highest level of integrity and objectivity. Comply with all Credit Union policies and regulatory requirements.

Demonstrated proficiency at current lending limit approval authority level.                           

Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Must be able to communicate with SECU personnel, VPs, SVPs, members, etc.

Must have strong networking and relationship development skills.

Meets compliance and regulatory standards.

Makes lending decisions consistent with SECU loan policies.

Must be willing to engage in ongoing training and professional development.

Must be able to speak English fluently.

Must understand and be dedicated to the Credit Union philosophy and work ethic. 

Must adhere to the work schedule and attendance policies established by the Credit Union.

Job Environment

Office setting with physical proximity to other employees and members. 

Some background noise from other employees, copy machine, and telephone. 

Some travel may be required.

Possibility of remote/hybrid work. Work from home environment must be conducive for answering calls and performing required duties in a secure location without distractions or interruptions.

Some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Physical Demands

Must be able to comprehend and carry out job demands.

Job requires a substantial amount of sitting.

Job requires computer and telephone usage for prolonged periods.

Use hands and fingers to press keys on a computer keyboard to enter or retrieve information.

Use hands and fingers to press telephone keypad and lift telephone receiver.

Must be able to lift 10-15 pounds.

Hiring for rotational 4on/40ff 10 am - 9 pm
