What Your Impact Is

  • Lead strategic growth for ERM’s Health & Safety Services in the San Francisco Bay Area and across California.
  • Build and deepen trusted partnerships with senior leaders in Technology, BioPharma, Power, Media, and Telecommunications.
  • Design and lead transformative EHS programs that reduce risk, improve safety outcomes, and deliver measurable business value.
  • Mentor and inspire teams of consultants while fostering innovation, technical excellence, and a culture of continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or another related science—or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant EHS experience, ideally within technology, biopharma, manufacturing, or energy.
  • Strong understanding of California and federal EHS regulations.
  • Proven experience managing projects, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
  • Ability to travel throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.  

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related science field.
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience across Technology, BioPharma, Power, Media, or Telecommunications sectors.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP or CIH (strongly preferred).
  • Experience with auditing, behavior-based safety, process hazard assessments, industrial hygiene, and safety process improvement.
  • Familiarity with advanced safety disciplines including robotics safety, NFPA 70E, machine guarding, radiation safety, and EHS design (e.g., Building and Fire Code experience).

    • Process Hazard Assessments
    • Robotics Safety
    • Safety Process Improvement
  • Conduct audits, risk assessments, and industrial hygiene evaluations.
  • Train and coach client teams to improve safety culture and performance.
  • Analyze data and deliver actionable insights that reduce hazards and support compliance.
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to revenue growth through exceptional service delivery.
  • Collaborate with ERM’s global network to solve complex, multidisciplinary challenges.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities through relationship-building and high-quality proposals.
  • Lead large-scale programs and manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deliver the full suite of ERM’s safety consulting services, including compliance audits, leadership training, and risk management systems.
  • Drive innovation to anticipate emerging client needs and differentiate ERM in the marketplace.
  • Achieve financial targets while ensuring client satisfaction, quality, and operational excellence.

For the Consulting Director, Environmental Health and Safety position, the anticipated annual base pay is $161,645–$204,153 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
