ERM Italy is seeking a technically strong Consultant (Technical Specialist) to join our Liability Portfolio Management & Remediation (LPMR) Team in Milan. The successful candidate will support complex contaminated site projects with a strong emphasis on technical excellence, delivering high‑quality characterisation, risk assessment, modelling and remediation studies.
The role requires solid hands‑on experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work autonomously on technically advanced tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Environmental Characterisation & Assessment
- Develop and execute characterization plans for all environmental matrices, including soil, groundwater, surface water, soil gas and ambient air.
- Perform Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessments in accordance with Italian regulations and international guidelines.
- Prepare Remediation Plans, including technology screening, feasibility assessment and conceptual design.
- Conduct statistical analyses and apply advanced tools for dataset evaluation.
Specialised Technical Activities
- Manage sites impacted by Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (NAPLs).
- Contribute to environmental forensics projects, including advanced methods such as CSIA, passive soil gas sampling, MIP and other diagnostic tools.
- Technical Documentation & Client Interaction
- Prepare high‑quality technical reports and presentations for clients and authorities.
- Manage relationships with Authorities, Clients and Contractors, ensuring excellent communication and reliability.
- Participate actively in ERM technical communities and share best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Competence
- Proven experience performing site characterisation, risk assessment, and remediation‑related tasks autonomously.
- Strong knowledge of Environmental Regulations, including Legislative Decree D.Lgs. 152/06, and familiarity with Italian and international guidelines (e.g., ASTM, USEPA, ITRC).
- Proficiency with technical software relevant to contaminated sites work (e.g., Surfer, Risknet, ProUCL,).
Professional Skills
- Excellent attention to detail and precision.
- Proven ability to work both autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in interacting with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Proactive, curious, and problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in international and multidisciplinary teams.
- Flexibility and autonomy in remote work.
Education & Experience
- MSc degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geosciences, or Environmental Sciences.
- Extended experience (just to give an average 5–7 years of experience).
- Experience as Project Coordinator is appreciated.
