**This role is based in Kathmandu, Nepal

The Consultant will provide technical, coordination, documentation, and operational support to the Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor under the STRIDES Project. The role will support surveillance system strengthening activities across human and animal health sectors, including epidemiological and laboratory surveillance, reporting, coordination, and knowledge management.

The consultant will help ensure the timely implementation of surveillance activities, documentation, reporting, and partner coordination, contributing to high-quality program delivery aligned with global surveillance standards and national priorities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical and Programmatic Support

  • Support implementation of infectious disease surveillance activities outlined in the project workplan.
  • Assist in compiling epidemiological and laboratory surveillance information from partners and technical teams.
  • Support preparation of technical briefs, situation reports (SitReps), bulletins, and risk assessments.
  • Assist with documentation of outbreak investigation and response activities.
  • Contribute to literature reviews, data summaries, and technical background documents.

2. Coordination and Communication

  • Support coordination with ministries, provincial health teams, laboratories, and development partners.
  • Assist in organizing technical meetings, consultations, and workshops.
  • Prepare meeting notes, action trackers, and follow-up communications.
  • Support communication between provincial consultants/local organizations and project leadership.

3. Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

  • Assist in drafting and formatting donor and project reports.
  • Support tracking of surveillance activities against project workplans.
  • Maintain organized documentation of technical resources, guidelines, and reports.
  • Support the development of presentations and external communication materials.

4. Data and Surveillance Systems Support

  • Assist with data compilation and basic analysis from surveillance systems (including DHIS2 where applicable).
  • Support quality checks of surveillance data and reporting outputs.
  • Assist in maintaining dashboards, trackers, and surveillance monitoring tools.

5. Knowledge Management and Learning

  • Support documentation of lessons learned and best practices.
  • Assist in the development of training materials, manuals, and tools.
  • Contribute to internal learning activities related to infectious disease surveillance.

6. Operational Support

  • Provide logistical coordination support for technical activities, events and travel.
  • Assist with consultant coordination and activity documentation.
  • Support administrative tracking related to surveillance activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, veterinary science, health sciences, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in public health programs, surveillance, research, or health systems work.
  • Familiarity with infectious disease surveillance concepts and outbreak response.
  • Experience supporting technical reporting and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience working with DHIS2 or surveillance databases is an asset.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting One Health or Zoonotic Disease programs.
  • Experience working with international NGOs or donor-funded projects.
  • Basic data analysis skills.

Duration of Consultancy:

  • April 2026- September 2026 (6 months with possibility of extension)
