What you’ll be doing

The Consultant, Governance and Data Integration is a key member of the Risk Data Management Office team, serving as the Secondary Oversight Function (OF) Lead and reporting to the Director, Governance & Data Integration. You will support the Primary OF Lead and Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Accountable Officer in executing oversight activities for specific regulatory requirements, ensuring the Bank’s regulatory compliance risk is managed in accordance with CIBC’s RCM Policy and supporting documentation.

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of effective processes, controls, and documentation to identify, manage, monitor, and report regulatory compliance risk. You will collaborate closely with business units, acting as a subject matter expert for designated regulatory requirements, and maintains comprehensive documentation. You will also ensures effective communication and coordination with Strategic Business Units (SBUs), Functional Groups, the RCM Portfolio Manager, and the RCM OF Accountable Officer and Primary OF Lead, supporting regulatory compliance and operational excellence across the organization.  You will also be responsible for supporting the Director in governing the Risk SAS environment within Risk Management.

How you’ll succeed

  • Regulatory Monitoring and Communication – Monitor regulatory developments, assess their impact, and communicate relevant updates and actionable guidance to business units and RCM Portfolio Managers. Stay current on changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards, ensuring timely adaptation of compliance strategies.

  • Risk Assessment, Compliance, and Advisory – Assist in conducting risk assessments and reviews of new initiatives to identify and evaluate regulatory compliance risks. Advise business units on compliance requirements and collaborate to establish effective controls, policies, and procedures.

  • Deficiency Management and Effective Challenge – Escalate regulatory risks and deficiencies, support remediation efforts, and coordinate with stakeholders to address compliance gaps. Implement mitigants for non-compliance risks and engage with governance groups to ensure timely resolution of findings.

  • Reporting, Documentation, and Effectiveness Assessment – Maintain standardized documentation, support the preparation of reports and metrics, and assist in the completion of effectiveness assessments to demonstrate fulfillment of oversight accountabilities and the adequacy of RCM controls.

  • Collaboration, Relationship Management, and Process Optimization Foster strong relationships with business leaders and governance groups, facilitate the execution of both the SAS Governance and RCM Program, and promote operational excellence through process improvements and sharing of best practices.

Who you are

  • You’re a certified professional and holds an undergraduate degree in business, law, or accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • You can demonstrate extensive experience in regulatory compliance management, including reviewing complex legal and regulatory documentation, identifying key requirements, monitoring regulatory changes, and collaborating with business partners to ensure appropriate controls, policies, and procedures are in place. It’s an asset if you have a deep understanding of risk and control principles, methodologies, and the regulatory environments governing financial institutions, including familiarity with the CIBC Control Framework..

  • You can demonstrate analytical and technical expertise, SAS & SQL expert knowledge, effective problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to provide clear, actionable guidance to Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and Functional Groups. You have highly developed interpersonal, advocacy, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to build trust, influence outcomes, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
