ERM is seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist or Biologist to join our global consulting firm. This position will support environmental compliance projects and natural resource permitting in Richmond, VA and surrounding areas. The projects we work on and the services we provide demand teams of multiple disciplinary professionals working collaboratively to meet our clients’ needs. In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers on a variety of tasks including coordinating; environmental inspection on a variety of energy infrastructure construction projects, field surveys, environmental impact assessment and permitting, and compliance support throughout construction to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations. Responsibilities:
Support with oversight of environmental compliance on construction projects
Review and ensure compliance with project permits and plans
Understands and ensures the clients’ procedures, guidance documents, and work practices are being complied with
Reviews and files reports, inspections, forms, or training records generated for projects
Participates in or provides environmental training for project teams, including contractors
Provide technical assistance on a wide range of capital infrastructure and other projects including preparation of environmental assessments and environmental impact statements under the National Environmental Policy Act, environmental due diligence services, habitat assessments, wetland delineations and reports, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and other related environmental documents
Conduct tasks related to environmental assessments that include but are not limited to land use planning/facility siting, pipeline and/or transmission line routing studies, renewable energy desktop and field-based environmental assessments and reporting, and development of permit matrices and risk assessments.
Assist in preparation of project-specific compliance management plans in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Perform multi-media permitting and compliance documentation with an emphasis on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and various state and local agencies.
Reviews and/or develops FERC variance requests
Assist with the development of environmental permitting for projects
Updates Client tracking systems (incidents, violations, etc.)
Perform project tasks within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables
Support ERM Partners-in-Charge and Project Managers to deliver exceptional client value on projects
Requirements:
3+ years of environmental inspection, monitoring, or permitting experience specific to linear and/or other energy infrastructure projects
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
Experience with large construction projects is preferred
An understanding of construction (e.g., pipelines, power lines, compressor/pumping stations, gas storage fields, wind farms, solar facilities, offshore facilities) gained through field experience.
Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills
Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills
Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision
Desired qualifications:
Experience working with or knowledge of federal and state agencies
Comfort and familiarity with active construction sites and linear construction techniques
