Construction Estimator/Preconstruction Manager

Ameresco is searching for a Construction Estimator/Preconstruction Manager responsible for leading all estimating and preconstruction activities for large-scale energy generation, storage, and infrastructure projects. The role supports project development from conceptual estimating through detailed bid execution, ensuring cost accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of Independent Cost Estimates (ICE), ROM estimates, and detailed bid estimates across all design phases.

  • Perform quantity take-offs and develop labor, material, and equipment cost estimates across all trades.

  • Manage subcontractor solicitation, bid leveling, negotiation, and award processes.

  • Conduct constructability reviews and value engineering to optimize project cost and schedule.

  • Develop detailed General Conditions estimates aligned with project schedules.

  • Coordinate with engineering, development, procurement, and construction teams.

  • Manage RFI processes and support bid documentation in Procore.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

  • Support proposal development including pricing structures and cost narratives.

  • Developing and managing strong relationships with subcontractors across our national footprint.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in commercial or utility-scale construction estimating.

  • Ability to review confidential US security information.

  • Ability to travel 10–25% as required.

Additional Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience with federal and non-federal construction projects, including compliance with federal contracting requirements.

  • Extensive experience in renewable energy projects including utility-scale solar (PV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and data center infrastructure.

  • Strong proficiency with Procore for RFI management, document control, and construction coordination.

  • Advanced experience using RSMeans or equivalent cost databases for benchmarking and validation.

  • Full project lifecycle experience from development through construction and closeout.

  • Experience with high-voltage and medium-voltage systems (substations, transmission, and distribution).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead preconstruction teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong understanding of market conditions, labor productivity, and regional pricing variations.

  • Experience developing risk-based contingency and escalation strategies.

  • Familiarity with estimating software such as HCSS, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar tools.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.

  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.

  • Maintain an “open mind” as it relates to learning new skills and working with a diverse group of engineering, construction and subcontractor professionals.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $111,000–$161,500 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

 

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
