This role is responsible for managing the Conflicts and Business Intake Teams' compliance with Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs), working closely with the firm's General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel to coordinate firmwide adherence, drive operational efficiency, and protect client relationships. The position oversees departmental best practices, including global policies and procedures, training and development content, and ensures ongoing review and evaluation.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Lead compliance with Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs) across the Conflicts and Business Intake teams; partner with the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel to coordinate firmwide adherence, streamline workflows, and safeguard client relationships. Own the “CounselGuide” process.
- Management of Conflicts Department’s innovation initiatives, best practices, global policies and procedures, and training content including quality control reviews. The Conflicts
- Partner with the AGC Team, AGC Paralegal, the senior Conflicts & Business Intake Managers, Supervisors and Coordinators to coordinate the Conflicts & Business Intake Teams role in client-matter management of matters subject to ethical screens.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date client–matter maps for key clients; ensure corporate families and management structures are created and maintained in partnership with the Conflicts Applications Supervisor, New Business Intake Supervisor, Financial Crime Senior Manager and Manager of Business Intelligence. This function has a dual purpose: compliance and business management.
- Collaborate closely with the Assistant General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel Paralegal, Conflicts Manager, Conflicts Intake Manager, Financial Crime Senior Manager, New Business Intake Supervisor, Conflicts Applications Supervisor, Director of Conflicts & New Business Intake, Director of Risk & Compliance, Financial Operations, the Manager of Business Intelligence, IT, fee earners, and Business Services Professionals (BSPs).
QUALIFICATIONS / KSAs:
- JD Required. Active license preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of Outside Counsel Guidelines, Legal Vendor Guidelines, Outside Counsel Policies, Engagement Protocols and other Standard Operating Procedures regarding law firm and client engagement required.
- Demonstrating knowledge and operational understanding of how to use OCG systems to proactively mitigate risk and align agreed upon legal terms with Dechert’s administrative functions and business objectives.
- Experience leading teams and/or workflows. Special emphasis on experience leading technical innovation and efficiency initiatives.
- Understanding and experience with legal ethics, compliance, and industry best practices.
- Legal and/or conflicts research experience required.
- Knowledge of various business structures required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to complete complex and difficult projects.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
- Ability to work on time sensitive projects, effectively and efficiently.
- Excellent analytical skills.
