Role and Responsibilities

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Computational Designer with a strong foundation in parametric design, algorithmic thinking, and workflow automation. As part of the Computational Design team, you will operate at the intersection of design, advanced computation, and experimental validation. You will play a key role in preparing, processing, and analyzing 3D/4D human scan data, building structured and meaningful datasets, and developing computational frameworks that directly inform the creation of next-generation wearable products. Your work will connect digital modeling, optimization strategies, simulation, and real-world validation through physical testing and user studies.
The Computational Designer will translate complex product design requirements into robust computational frameworks that generate optimized, human-centered solutions. You will design and develop parametric systems, generative models, and algorithmic workflows capable of exploring large design spaces efficiently, while implementing advanced optimization strategies such as genetic algorithms, evolutionary solvers, iterative global optimization, or multi-objective optimization to identify high-performance solutions based on defined constraints and performance criteria. You will structure scalable computational pipelines, automate repetitive processes, and build reliable design systems using Grasshopper (Rhino) and Python for workflow automation. Leveraging data-driven methodologies, and potentially AI/ML techniques for clustering, predictive modeling, or generative systems, you will contribute to the development of performance-driven, and human-centered wearable products grounded in computational rigor and experimental validation.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a cutting-edge R&D environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of designers, engineers, and creative technologists across Paris, San Francisco, and Seoul.

Key Responsibilities
• Implement custom parametric design optimization algorithms within Grasshopper, and develop Python scripts to automate complex workflows
• Apply optimization strategies (genetic algorithms, iterative solvers, multi-objective optimization, …) to improve product performance and prepare design outputs ready for FEA evaluation (wearability, structural behavior, comfort analysis)
• Build and explore generative design systems to investigate novel design spaces
• Collect, clean, parse, and interpret 3D/4D human body scan datasets and integrate into computational design pipelines
• Support simulation workflows (Knowledge in FEA simulation is a plus)
• Develop physical prototypes using rapid prototyping techniques (including 3D printing) to validate computational design hypotheses and product performance
• Define, organize, and run user testing sessions to evaluate UX, ergonomics, and wearability, and integrate qualitative and quantitative feedback into iterative design cycles
• Reverse engineer existing products when needed to extract parametric logic or performance benchmarks
• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, engineers, and researchers across global teams
• Contribute to documentation, visual storytelling, and presentation of computational methodologies

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Computational Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Computer Graphics, Human Factors, or a related field (Doctoral degree in a related field is a plus)
• 4+ years of relevant professional experience (or strong equivalent expertise)
• Advanced proficiency in Grasshopper and Rhinoceros
• Strong Python programming skills for workflow automation and custom tool development
• Proven experience with topological design and optimization methods (genetic algorithms, evolutionary strategies, iterative/global solvers)
• Experience in Computer Graphics and geometric computation
• Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning expertise is a strong plus
• Familiarity with FEA (Abaqus or equivalent) or soft-body simulation is a plus
• Hands-on mindset, flexible and agile in experimentation
• Comfortable exploring fresh, original perspectives
• Strong time management and attention to detail
• Ability to think strategically and act proactively
• Strong visual storytelling and communication skills
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally and work overtime when required

Join us at Samsung Design Innovation Center (SDIC) to shape the future of product design through advanced computational methodologies, AI-driven workflows, and cutting-edge optimization techniques. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of creativity, automation, and human-centered innovation, we would love to hear from you !
