Job Summary: This is a full-time position in the Publications Unit of the Office of Information Technology at the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C. Closing Date: Wednesday, 04/01/2026, 11:59 PM ET

Major Duties:

  • Grade 11 Production of print & digital media, requiring the incumbent to multi-task while providing support operations for opinion/legal book composition and related print/digital media production. The Publication Unit assists with the opinion circulating process, transforms multi-format documents, expedites web document conversions/postings and HTML as well as production and dissemination of vital Court products. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment of innovation, teamwork and challenge. Daily tasks include proof reading, file conversion, (Word, PDF, XML Miles33), web postings, typesetting / pagination, and design / digital printing. Incumbent should be capable of working alone on shifts and independently on projects when necessary. Other duties as assigned. Grade 12 In addition to Grade 11 duties, the incumbent must also be able to assist customers with graphic design/desktop publishing projects from concept to completion. The Specialist will provide for professional output of all Court materials. They will also assist in the designing and production of technical and artistic artwork for Opinions related work, for books, brochures, posters, displays, etc. Production of print & digital media, requiring an applicant who is able to multi-task while providing operations support for opinion/legal book composition and related print/digital media production. The incumbent will handle data conversions of journal, miscellaneous orders, granted/noted case list, days calls, releasing orders and opinions to the Court's website. Produce typesetting/composition of galleys and book pages of Preliminary Print and Bound Volumes, calibrate printers, archive emails, help recommend new equipment and supplies for graphic design related projects, helps with the creation/testing of enhancements to opinion's production programs, and document and troubleshoot any problems with software and/or operating systems. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Requires knowledge and skills in printing composition, printing processes, typesetting and hi-volume print production. A thorough knowledge of US GPO style manual, proofreader's marks, printing markup plus tools and techniques used in legal document/book creation and proofreading/publishing. An excellent command of English language is needed. Incumbent should be capable of understanding/communicating technical information. Ability to remain calm and professional in a high stress environment when confronted by demanding situations, short time frames, high-profile cases, or other pressing needs. A basic knowledge of XML and an understanding of website structure. Additional qualifying experience with Internet/Website applications and CMS and HTML is needed. Design skills: should be fluent in Adobe Suite applications. Hands-on working knowledge of Miles33 OASYS XML Publishing Software or other XML code-based typesetting/page layout publishing software is a definite plus. MS-Office experience required, as well as a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Windows. Strong inter-personal communication skills required for this high-demand customer-service department. Excellent time and project management skills are necessary to meet rigid publishing deadlines. Employment is subject to successful completion of a security background check.
