The Opportunity
We are currently looking for a Compliance Manager to join our European Compliance team. This role aims to provide compliance assurance in respect of legal and regulatory requirements, implement the compliance framework while collaborating with all internal and external stakeholders and support the delivery of compliance initiatives across Europe as required. A good knowledge of Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian insurance compliance obligations, next to a working knowledge of general European insurance compliance obligations, are essential for this position.
The position will be based in Stockholm or Copenhagen, and you will report into the Head of Compliance for Europe, based in Brussels, and our Branch Manager for the Nordics. Remote work is possible to a certain extent. Some travel within Europe will be required as and when appropriate (travel frequency expected not to exceed two single day trips monthly).
You will be part of the European Compliance team and have frequent engagement with team members across our branch locations (Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands), next to local business stakeholders.

Your New Role
Compliance
- Support the Compliance department in implementing the Compliance Action Plan, integrating key objectives and compliance culture as required for our Nordics branch.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of, monitor and assess relevant legal, regulatory or sectorial requirements for (re)insurance undertakings, across all relevant compliance domains.
- Act as Compliance Manager for our Nordics countries and business, i.e., take charge of compliance advisory and review activities in relation to Swedish and Danish host state insurance compliance obligations, next to Norwegian insurance compliance obligations.
- Assist in the delivery of European compliance initiatives, both for the Branch and transversal across the organisation.
- Provide advice to the business on interpretation of and adherence to EU and Nordics compliance requirements, and engage with the various local business partners in the Nordics and other Europe or UK central functions as appropriate.
- Review and monitor internal controls for adequacy of design and operating effectiveness, as well as support the implementation of the Monitoring Plan.
- Assist in development and delivery of relevant compliance policies and training to the business as required.
- Act as local Compliance contact point with the relevant regulatory bodies and ensure regulatory processes and reporting are being effectively carried out.
Risk Management
- Assist in identification, tracking, assessment, reporting and resolution of compliance risk
- Assist the business in raising issues and incidents on the internal risk management system
- Assist the business in the design of appropriate control measures
About You
- Minimum 3 years of experience in compliance within an EU (re)insurance undertaking, bank or insurance intermediary or law office, with personal exposure to insurance distribution compliance activities (not confined to financial crime prevention obligations)
- Master’s degree in law, economics or equivalent by a combination of knowledge and experience.
- Up-to-date knowledge of key compliance obligations for non-life insurers according to Swedish, Danish and EU law.
- Fluent in Swedish or Danish and English (verbal and in writing).
- Able to analyse business cases, extract potential compliance issues and synthetise into concise memos with clear recommendations understandable by non-compliance colleagues.
- Impeccable personal and professional conduct, personal and professional integrity and propriety incumbent to the Compliance role.
- Able to take proactive ownership in compliance activities and projects.
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Strong drafting and reporting skills.
- Process minded.
- Team player; able to engage with Compliance and business partners .
- Able to recognise and adapt to changing business requirements
