Mō te tūranga | About the Role
As Compliance Manager, you will support the delivery of second line compliance activities across a broad range of regulatory and compliance topics, with a particular focus on the Consumer side of Westpac New Zealand’s business. You’ll work closely with Business Unit Risk Managers to identify, manage, monitor and report on consumer compliance risks, while helping to continuously improve compliance frameworks, policies and processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced compliance professional who enjoys working across diverse stakeholders, providing trusted advice, and helping embed strong compliance practices across a complex organisation, including strengthening Consumer Lending, particularly, CCCFA compliance and ensuring good customer outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
Deliver second line compliance activities, including embedment of frameworks, policies and processes to support the effective management of compliance obligations, with a strong focus on Consumer Lending and, in particular, CCCFA obligations
Conduct compliance risk assessments, assess incidents, contribute to management reporting, and provide pragmatic advice and guidance to the business, including CCCFA‑related issues, incidents and controls
Collaborate with Business Unit Risk Managers to embed the Compliance and Conduct Risk Management Framework, with a focus on operational consumer compliance practices oversight
Develop, review and implement compliance policies and procedures aligned to business operations, including those relating to lending and consumer protection
Support specialist compliance projects as required, ensuring sustainable and durable compliance outcomes
Provide clear guidance and training on regulatory obligations and how they apply in practice, particularly CCCFA and other Consumer Lending related obligations
Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date compliance content on internal systems and websites
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
A New Zealand Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
At least three years’ experience in a risk, legal, audit or regulatory function
Foundational knowledge of risk management practices and methodologies
Working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and global compliance best practice, including the CCCFA
Strong capability across Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI or similar tools
Compliance experience within banking, with exposure to Consumer Lending legislation and obligations, in particular, the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act
Experience implementing or overseeing risk and compliance frameworks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to interpret complex regulatory information and tailor messages for different audiences
Confidence to influence and promote a strong culture of compliance aligned to Board and regulatory expectations
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
A collaborative approach and the ability to build effective relationships across the business
A genuine desire to learn and continuously develop
