As Compliance Data Methodology Specialist, you will lead the AI strategy, implementation, and advisory capability within the Compliance division. Reporting to the Data Methodology Lead in Compliance, this senior expert role sits at the intersection of compliance risk expertise and advanced AI/ML technology.
You will advise the Compliance division on how to responsibly adopt, scale, and govern AI, while helping the bank identify, mitigate and prevent AI-related risks. Acting as the primary bridge between domain experts and technical teams, you will enable scalable AI solutions that strengthen compliance processes, improve efficiency and meet evolving regulatory expectations.
This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategy, delivery, and governance. You will design and build AI solutions yourself, shape the AI roadmap for Compliance, advise senior stakeholders, and play a key role in how ING applies AI in a regulated environment.
The Team
The Compliance Data Methodology team is part of Compliance Frameworks & Control department and part of the Group Compliance domain within ING. Compliance Frameworks & Control is responsible for all risk-agnostic activities within Compliance and for management of the compliance functional processes. The department also leads compliance data methodology, compliance ongoing assurance & insights and compliance deep dives & diagnostics, supporting a controlled, efficient and effective global compliance function.
Within Compliance Frameworks & Control you are part of the Compliance Data Methodology team, whose purpose is to:
Identify and support data, tooling & (Gen)AI project deliveries for the global Compliance function
Oversee the data management, data quality, risk assessment, legal framework & technical infrastructure for those deliverables from a Compliance perspective
Financially forecast and oversee the projects
Roles and responsibilities
As a Compliance Data Methodology Specialist, you will be responsible for:
Define and own the Compliance AI strategy and roadmap, aligned with enterprise AI priorities, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
Identify, evaluate, and prioritise AI use cases across Compliance and risk management, building and maintaining a structured AI opportunity pipeline.
Analyse end-to-end compliance and risk processes to identify automation potential, bottlenecks, and opportunities for AI-driven improvement.
Design and deliver AI-powered solutions hands-on, using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI Services, and Google AI platforms (GCP, BigQuery, Gemini).
Build prototypes, MVPs, and production solutions, owning the full lifecycle from ideation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
Ensure AI solutions comply with architecture, security, data governance, and model risk standards, embedding responsible AI principles by design.
Act as trusted AI advisor to senior Compliance and Risk leadership, translating complex technical concepts into clear business and risk implications.
Develop business cases and feasibility assessments for AI initiatives, including ROI, cost-benefit analysis, and scaling pathways.
Maintain deep expertise in AI regulation and governance, including the EU AI Act, ECB/EBA guidance, and internal compliance and model risk policies.
Support regulatory interactions and audits related to AI/ML usage in Compliance.
Inspire and coach a small team of AI specialists, while driving AI literacy and upskilling across the Global Compliance organisation.

We are looking for the following knowledge and experience:
Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of hands-on experience in AI, data science, or machine learning, including at least 3 years in banking or financial services risk or compliance.
Proven ability to decompose complex business processes and design AI-driven solutions from concept to production.
Hands-on experience with Google AI platforms (GCP, BigQuery, Google AI / Gemini) and/or Microsoft AI tooling (Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI Services).
Experience developing business cases and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Understanding of compliance risk management disciplines and their underlying data and processes.
Working knowledge of AI regulatory frameworks, including the EU AI Act, ECB/EBA supervisory expectations and internal model risk governance.
Experience with GenAI patterns such as RAG, agentic workflows, context engineering, or fine-tuning.
Exposure to regulatory reviews or audits involving AI or advanced analytics.
You have a sound knowledge of (ING’s) data architecture and data management principles.
You have learning agility and an innovative mindset.
You are firm when needed and show flexibility when possible.
You have an excellent level of English (verbal/written).
