The Compliance Controls Expert supports Compliance in the management and control of risks across different risk types. Where required, the Compliance Controls Expert is responsible of maintaining the Control Framework, executing independent risk-based controls and overseeing the effectiveness of the 1st Line of Defence (1LoD) control activities. He/she works in close collaboration with Business, the 1LoD and other relevant stakeholders. The Compliance Controls Analyst supports the performance of the required risk & control assessments and conducts risk reporting to Senior Management, where appliable.

He/she has a solid reporting line to the Head of Compliance Controls Hong Kong.

YOUR CHALLENGE

Compliance Control Framework

  • Support the development, documentation, and maintenance of the 2nd Line of Defence (2LoD) Compliance Control Framework across assigned business areas or processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Design, implement, and enhance preventive and detective controls to mitigate relevant risks.
  • Establish and maintain Standard Operating Manual to document the end-to-end execution steps and procedures of controls.
  • Maintain the central repository of controls and related documentation.
  • Participate in change management initiatives by assessing/proposing enhancements required in control framework in the event of process changes or new product/new business.
  • Define the consequence management protocol for identified exceptions from controls.

Control Execution

  • Execute independent controls defined in the Compliance Control Framework, in line with the Bank’s risk and control methodology, and document findings/exceptions in accordance with the established protocols.
  • Maintain adequate control assessment documentation and review evidence as appropriate.
  • Collaborate and provide guidance to responsible personnel and ensure timely remedial measures/ actions on identified exceptions from controls.
  • Issue consequence management to responsible personnel in accordance with the established protocols.

Risk & Control Assessment

  • Collaborate with policy/process owners and relevant stakeholders to identify control gaps, assess risk exposure, and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
  • Monitor and report on control performance indicators, including deficiencies, exceptions, and remediation progress, providing clear insights to management.
  • Support and perform periodic risk & control assessments, guided and supported by Head Office/ Operational Risk.
  • Support and conduct thematic risk reviews, where required.

Control Reporting

  • Maintain the central repository of executed controls and related documentation.
  • Compile and provide reporting of key control results to Senior Management, including but not limited to Local Risk Committee reporting.
  • Support management reporting driven by Head Office.

Audit exercises

  • Support internal and external audit exercises.
  • Contribute to internal and external audit responses by preparing evidence, explaining control activities, and supporting remediation efforts where required.
  • Assess and escalate in the event of potential deficiencies.

Risk Culture and Stakeholder Management

  • Establish and contribute to a trust-based partnership with stakeholders.
  • Promote a strong control culture through training, guidance, and awareness-raising activities for business unit staff.
  • Stay informed on evolving regulatory expectations, industry best practices, and internal policy updates relevant to internal controls.
  • Initiate and advise on appropriate measures with relevant stakeholders in case of adverse control results, where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate appropriate values and behaviours including but not limited to standards on honesty and integrity, due care and diligence, fair dealing (treating customers fairly), management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, adequate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

YOUR PROFILE

  • University degree or equivalent education in Banking and/or Finance.
  • International banking and audit or risk management experience.
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant working experience in financial industry, preferably in Private Banking
  • Profound knowledge in the field of Compliance, Risk Management, as well as Operational Risk Management.
  • Good English and Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) language skills; other languages a plus.
