The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.

About the role 

As a Community Support Worker, this is your opportunity to provide accommodation support and assertive engagement to men experiencing homelessness with complex and multifaceted needs, while fostering a Client Centred, Strengths Based and Trauma Informed service culture aligned with The Salvation Army’s Model of Care 2023–2026.

Reporting to the Community of Support Team Leader, this is a permanent part-time role offering 30.4 hours, located in West Melbourne, VIC. 

The successful candidate will be required to work out-of-hours shifts, including Thursday and Friday (3:30pm – 11:15pm) and Weekend shifts every week (alternating 8:00am – 4:00pm & 3:30pm – 11:15pm)

How you will make an impact  

  • Provide individual and group activities that build social, domestic and independent-living skills.

  • Develop and run programs that support residents’ social, recreational, educational and health needs.

  • Connect residents with specialist services, including health, mental health, AOD and therapeutic supports, both internal and external.

  • Work collaboratively with caseworkers and other providers, maintaining accurate records, managing risks and responding to challenging situations.

  • Contribute to daily facility operations support team culture assist with new staff induction complete Samis accounting tasks and undertake after hours intakes when required

What you will bring 

  • A Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services or a related field  

  • Demonstrated experience in the housing and homelessness sector

  • A current VIC employee Working with Children’s Check

Conditions

Compensation is in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Level 4
