Job Summary: You will serve as a Community Liaison Specialist in the US Naval Support Activity of NSA NAPLES DETACHMENT GAETA.

Major Duties:

  • You will advise Officer-in-Charge (OIC), along with subordinates, on appropriate solutions and approaches to politically sensitive problems, requiring fluency in Italian language and, knowledge of Italian politics and culture.
  • You will represent the NSA Naples Det Gaeta and C6F at ceremonies and functions hosted by the local Italian dignitaries, authorities, and agencies in and around Gaeta.
  • You will proactively engage the local city hall authorities and community organizations to manage the US Navy's reputation in the area via the creation and completion of Community Relations (COMREL) events.
  • You will liaise between ITN Security Section, Carabinieri (CC), and USN for base access privileges of distinguished visitors, contractors, and guests.
  • You will organize and facilitate the execution of Local Joint Military Commission Meetings (JMC-L).
  • You will propose, plan, coordinate and execute official visits and social functions.

Qualifications: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Are you fluent in English and Italian spoken and written languages, to the extent that you can act as a spontaneous interpreter/translator and can provide official written translations in both English and Italian? Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Analyzing Italian and American customs, traditions, and mannerisms, both military and civilian, to liaise between general civilians, staff, military personnel, and foreign and national dignitaries; 2) Providing guidance to leadership on the Italian political system and climate and engaging local city hall authorities and community organizations to manage official government reputation in the area via the creation and completion of Community Relations (COMREL) event; 3) Referencing Italian law, culture, and customs to assist in resolution of legal problems of a military community; and 4) Interpreting military protocol and organizational structure to propose, plan, coordinate, and execute official visits and social functions.
