About the role 
You will work closely with the Greater West Salvos Team and Corps Officer to develop, facilitate, and deliver needsbased community programs that reflect the heart of Christ. Your work will help strengthen community connections, support vulnerable individuals, and create pathways for people to engage with the life and ministry of the church. 

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building relationships, has a heart for mission, and is excited to see lives transformed through the love of Jesus. 

This is a full-time permanent role based in St Marys Greater West Sydney. Salary is in accordance with SCHADS Level 3. 

How you will make an impact 

  • Build strong relationships with community members, local organisations, and service providers. 
  • Develop new initiatives that meet local needs and align with The Salvation Army’s Christian mission. 
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate emergency relief and assessment activities. 
  • Work with the Corps Officer to create innovative community engagement opportunities. 
  • Walk alongside people in crisis—encouraging, equipping, and empowering them through practical support, community activities, and warm referrals. 
  • Recruit, support, and mobilise volunteers for community engagement programs. 
  • Provide training, mentoring, and ongoing encouragement to volunteers and students. 
  • Support student placements, including coaching in emergency relief processes and referral pathways. 
  • Assist with volunteer rostering, induction, and administration. 
  • Facilitate internal and external referral pathways to ensure individuals receive appropriate support. 
  • Promote opportunities for community members to participate in church events, ministries, and faithbased activities. 
  • Provide guidance on complex community engagement matters. 
  • Liaise with the Corps Officer on budgeting for community programs. 
  • Contribute to grant submissions and funding applications. 
  • Assist with promoting programs and events through social media, website updates, and other communication channels. 
  • Maintain online content related to community engagement. 
  • Support general office enquiries and correspondence. 
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as processing accounts, banking, and participating in finance meetings. 
  • Contribute positively to team culture and attend staff meetings. 

What you will bring 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Services/Social Work (minimum Certificate level) or relevant experience. 
  • Experience in community engagement within a Christian or notforprofit context. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver communitybased programs. 
  • Strong communication and relationshipbuilding skills. 
  • A clear commitment to the mission, values, and ethos of The Salvation Army. 
  • Willingness and ability to support and promote Christian faith in practice. 
  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (required). 
  • Working With Children Check. 
  • Current Driver’s Licence. 
  • Completion of all compulsory TSA training modules.
