Your Opportunity
Imagine a role where your work doesn’t just support the community, it helps shape it. Based in Cairns, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a region rich in culture, diversity, and connection.

As a Community Engagement Facilitator with Mission Australia’s NDIS Partners in the Community program, you’ll be at the heart of building stronger, more inclusive communities across Far North Queensland. You’ll work alongside children, families, and people with disability, connecting them to supports while strengthening the local networks that help them thrive.

This is a role for someone who understands the unique strengths and challenges of regional and remote communities. You’ll be out on the ground, building relationships with local services, engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, identifying gaps, and co-designing solutions that are culturally responsive and community-led. You’ll have the autonomy to bring fresh ideas to life, from facilitating workshops and community events to supporting peer networks and creating pathways for greater participation. Backed by a national organisation with a long-standing commitment to social inclusion, you’ll have the support, tools, and trust to make your work count.

Cairns offers more than just a job; it’s a lifestyle. With its strong sense of community, access to world-class natural environments, and a deep connection to culture, it’s the perfect place for someone who wants their work and life to feel aligned and purposeful.

If you’re passionate about inclusion, energised by community connection, and ready to make a real difference where it matters most, this is your opportunity to create lasting impact in Far North Queensland.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead community engagement across the early childhood and disability sectors, building strong relationships that improve access, inclusion and awareness of Mission Australia’s NDIS Early Childhood approach.

  • Map community assets and identify service gaps, working with families, carers and local partners to break down barriers and strengthen community capacity.

  • Design and deliver workshops, programs and peer networks that support child development, build community knowledge and empower families to participate fully.

  • Collaborate with families, carers and stakeholders to co‑design solutions that respond to real community needs and drive meaningful, community‑led change.

  • Plan and manage community engagement projects, ensuring activities are well‑structured, impactful and aligned with program goals.

  • Maintain high‑quality reporting, documentation and compliance, ensuring all records and activities meet Mission Australia, NDIA and legislative standards.

Requirements for Success

  • A strong understanding of the NDIS, early childhood and disability service systems, including legislation, human rights, and inclusion principles.

  • Proven ability to work independently, develop, plan, coordinate and implement large community capacity building projects

  • 2–5 years’ experience in, community development, disability services or allied health, with proven ability to work directly with families and communities.

  • Exceptional communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to engage confidently with families, carers, service providers and community stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated community engagement and sector‑networking experience, including mapping services, identifying gaps and mobilising community partnerships.

  • Strong project management and analytical capability, with the ability to plan activities, prioritise effectively and use data or research to inform decisions.

  • Relevant qualifications in early childhood, community services, disability, allied health or a related field.

  • NDIS Worker Screening, Blue Card and NDIA On-Boarding requirements.

  • Full driver's licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
