PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Salary to be commensurate with experience

The hiring range for this position is $58,487.00 - $73,108.00/annually

OVERVIEW OF JOB 

The Homelessness Program Coordinator will have primary responsibility over the Aurora Flexible Housing Fund, assist with grants management, and other homelessness-related duties.  

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Oversee and manage the Aurora Flexible Housing Fund (AFF) and other funds for eviction prevention and rehousing at the City 

  • Train community partners, coordinate the invoicing and payment process to providers, approve or deny applications, and other AFF related duties 

  • Be the primary liaison for Built For Zero. Lead and coordinate weekly case conferencing and Built for Zero coordinating committee meetings 

  • Work with cross-departmental colleagues (Police, Code Enforcement, Parks, etc.) and our community partners that provide homeless services in Aurora and regionally. Have direct contact with families and individuals experiencing homelessness through both programs 

  • Assists with the compliance of funding requirements, including reports to grantors and partners and ensuring all verification paperwork and data entry is completed as required by contract 

  • Conducts thorough first reviews of payment requests, ensuring adherence to quality control standards and grant compliance, and provides division approval 

  • Coordinate and oversee the annual Point in Time count 

  • Respond to incoming requests from Aurora residents around resource navigation and provide appropriate referrals 

  • Participate in Aurora@Home collaborative 

  • Assist with financial reconciliation, invoicing and payments to community partners and grant monitoring as needed 

  • Represent the city of Aurora's Homelessness Program at community meetings across the metro region 

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of special events and trainings 

  • Lead trainings for community partners on grant reporting, housing case management, and other needs  

  • Performs additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. 

 

Education:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, psychology, or related field preferred or equivalent experience. 

Experience:   

  • At least three (3) years of relevant  experience in community engagement, human services program coordination, housing stability initiatives, or related experience supporting underserved populations 

Knowledge: 

  • The principles and practices of neighborhood outreach, program development, public administration, and local government structure and services  

  • Trauma-informed and culturally responsive service delivery practices 

  • Data collection, reporting standards, and performance measurement related to federally or locally funded human service programs 

  • Community resource navigation and housing assistance programs 

  • Small group facilitation, community leadership development  

  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to engage both community members and City staff/Council  

  • Personal computer with related software including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications  

Skills:   

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and public presentation skills. 

  • Strong interpersonal and managerial skills  

  • Skill in the use of windows-based programs, especially Excel and Word 

  • Strong customer service skills 

  • Skill in maintaining accurate program records and databases (e.g., HMIS or similar case management systems) 

  • Conflict resolution and stakeholder engagement skills in sensitive community environments 

  • Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors 

Abilities:   

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community members, and partner organizations  

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing 

  • Ability to analyze program data and identify trends to support program effectiveness 

  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines 

  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy 

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in approving or denying program assistance within established guidelines 

  • Creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner 

  • Capacity to empathize with and effectively support individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability 

Licenses and Certifications Required:   

  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and be able to operate a city vehicle, or otherwise demonstrate ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Essential Personnel:   

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Sedentary physical work that involves moving no more than 10 pounds at a time with or without assistance 

  • Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with employees, partners, and community members, with or without reasonable accommodation 

  • Ability to review written and electronic documents, with or without reasonable accommodation 

  • Continuous hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard, carts and moveable shelving 

Work Environment: 

  • Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting with a program or outreach events in varying weather conditions 

Equipment Used: 

  • Uses standard office equipment including laptop and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and databases such as HMIS 

  • This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment 

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
