The Community Dietetic Technician, Registered maintains day-to-day operations of the Nourish Food Pantry Plus under the direction of the Registered Dietitian. Provides direct nutritional support to Cleveland Clinic patients and community members under the guidance of a Registered Dietitian. Works collaboratively with other departments to facilitate the provision of food to patients and the community.
A caregiver in this role will work 8:00am to 4:30pm or 7:30am to 4:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Under the guidance of a registered dietitian, provide direct patient care using medical nutrition therapy for a population identified to be food insecure.
- Incorporate evidence-based and facility-approved materials to provide individual and group education.
- Implement a nutritional care plan and communicates plan to dietitian and other health care team members.
- Establish a follow-up system and maintains documentation in the electronic medical record and in Pantry Trak software.
- Complete food bank orientation, Pantry Trak learning modules.
- Participate in annual food bank inspections and complies with regulations/recommendations.
- Ensure that food provided to patients is compliant with the diet ordered.
- Assess food pantry stock, coordinates orders and deliveries from food bank.
- Assist with the input, update, maintenance, and inventory of systems in pantry.
- Actively contributes to departmental initiatives including committees and projects.
- Support the dietetic student program as a supervised practice rotation preceptor.
- Assist in scheduling and monitoring volunteers to assist with community pantry hours/distribution.
- Complete reports for ongoing productivity tracking for CC and Food Bank(s).
- Participate in professional growth activities, including attending and contributing to patient care rounds, conferences and seminars on nutrition and related topics.
- Participate in clinical research. Utilizes clinical software applications to facilitate care.
- Comply with all regulatory organizations including Greater Cleveland Food Bank (or other county food bank), Health Department, and the policies and procedures of the department and the Cleveland Clinic.
- Perform nutrition analysis using dietetic software for recipes and diet records.
- Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Associate degree in Dietetic Technology
- Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) required within six months of hire
- Serv Safe Certification required within 90 days of hire through the National Restaurant Association
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field
- DTR background or similar training in nutrition strongly
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to navigate extensively to provide services to many patients and community members and manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer entry.
- Must have physical ability to unload food, produce from food bank truck/pallets up to 40 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using Personal Protective Equipment as required.
