How You Will Make an Impact

Compose and implement communication strategies for Thermo Fisher's Specialty Diagnostics business, covering Transplant Diagnostics and Clinical Diagnostics, to ensure clear, aligned, and impactful messaging for diverse audiences. These businesses are pivotal in supporting critical scientific and healthcare milestones—from early diagnosis and patient monitoring to transplant compatibility and women’s health, including preeclampsia testing. Our specialty diagnostics solutions are vital for improving patient outcomes and advocating for global public health.

What This Role Is About

Lead communication strategy and execution for businesses within SDG, including Transplant Diagnostics and Clinical Diagnostics, emphasizing the significance of our scientific advancements.

Develop and guide cohesive internal and external communication plans to engage colleagues, customers, and patients effectively. Collaborate with Thermo Fisher Scientific Communications team to improve strategy and storytelling.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement communications strategies to inform, align, and engage employees across specialty diagnostics, transplant diagnostics and clinical diagnostics

  • Lead divisional communications programs and channels, including town halls, leadership forums, change communications and employee campaigns

  • Support strategic change communications across teams and functions

  • Lead patient-facing communications efforts, including message development and cross-channel coordination

  • Step into the role of primary communicator for the transplant diagnostics patient advocacy program, working with internal and external customers to share patient stories and boost community engagement.

  • Lead external communications alongside Corporate and Group PR teams, covering media relations and thought leadership

  • Work closely with outside agencies and support issues management when needed

  • Build clear, cohesive messaging frameworks and content across formats (presentations, videos, articles, talking points, etc.)

  • Track and report on communications metrics to inform and improve future communications strategy

What You’ll Bring

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field

  • Bringing 7+ years of experience in internal and external communications within a complex, global corporate environment

  • Experience in life sciences, diagnostics or healthcare, preferred

  • Demonstrated success in patient communications and advocacy engagement

  • Proven experience managing public relations and media outreach, including agency collaboration

  • Experience supporting senior leaders and cross-functional initiatives

Skills and Strengths

  • Strategic approach with the ability to align communication goals to business outcomes

  • Proficient writing and storytelling abilities, capable of simplifying intricate subjects into compelling and understandable narratives

  • Recognized as a trusted advisor and collaborative partner across levels and teams

  • Experienced in building and delivering coordinated communications strategies from concept through execution

  • Able to adapt in fast-paced environments, lead through ambiguity, and support change communications

  • Comfortable navigating complex situations and managing sensitive topics with integrity

  • Equally strong in strategy and execution—able to see the big picture while managing tactical detail

  • Brings a sense of ownership, urgency and responsiveness to daily work

  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous learning and development

  • Proficient with tools such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Viva Engage, OpenReel, Poppulo, and social media platforms

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally as needed

  • Proficient in English

Compensation and Benefits

This position may be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance. Our comprehensive Total Rewards package for U.S. colleagues includes:

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $130,000.00–$160,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
