Communications Officer

Major Function 

The Bezos Earth Fund is seeking a Communications Manager to join their growing team. This person should be a seasoned communications professional who has proven experience working and developing relationships with media, securing proactive stories in online, print, broadcast and emerging press channels (i.e. Substack, podcast, social media). They should be able to think big and creatively to drive results both with or without news and have an ability to dive deep on subject matter across environmental, climate, nature and science, to become an expert in the work they’re supporting. While traditional press is a priority, this person should be well versed in all communications channels, with the ability to leverage social media, events, conferences, and other channels and venues to drive news.

The Communications Manager will work end-to-end, with the ability to create a plane, drive a vision and strategy and execute – no job is too small for this person, and they should have a hands-on approach. They will be an individual contributor, however should be able to manage and work with agency partners. They’ll be part of a larger team, and must have a positive attitude, be able to collaborate and build a positive team culture. They should have experience working with senior leaders and be comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic setting.

The Communications Manager should have an understanding of sustainability, environmental work and philanthropy, however direct experience in these fields are not required. They will report directly to the Chief Communications Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build comprehensive comms plans (yearly and bespoke) to drive news across Bezos Earth Fund pillars
  • Execute against plans and deliver results through storytelling across press and other channels
  • Draft and edit documents, press releases, blog posts, talking points social media copy and more
  • Provide counsel and direction to senior leaders on an ongoing basis
  • Ability to leverage industry conferences and events for news and thought leadership, working closely with senior leaders
  • Ability to be proactive and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or higher
  • 5+ years of experience working in communications
  • Proven experience driving news campaigns and delivering results
  • Proven experience working with senior leaders including staffing, providing counsel, and developing ideas
  • Proven ability to think big and deliver results that shift perception and awareness for key audiences
  • Experience building relationships with press, influencers, or other external partners

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged period sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May require extended hours for urgent issues or to meet established deadlines.
  • This role will be based in the Washington, DC.
  • Domestic and international travel is required.
