A Glimpse of the Job
The Communications Coordinator performs marketing and communications tasks related to Campus and Community Enrichment program initiatives. This role promotes programs that bring the campus and community together, from art exhibitions to campus sustainability initiatives to helping launch a volunteer platform that connects Texas A&M students with the community. Duties include strategic planning and support of existing strategies, university branding and graphic design, campus and community promotions, paid advertising (as needed), content creation, media relations (as needed), website updates, email communications, management of photos and video, and social media communications.
Essential Duties and Tasks:
Strategic Planning
Provides strategic direction on marketing initiatives and supports existing strategies and processes.
Collaborates with departmental staff and student employees to ensure projects meet strategic goals, follow processes and meet objectives for promotions in a timely manner.
Platform Marketing Rollout
Spearheads the rollout of a new volunteer platform by creating a marketing plan, a branded toolkit and marketing collateral, promoting through multiple communication channels to campus and community.
Marketing and Promotions
Promotes departmental activities that include art exhibitions, artist talks and receptions, art-making classes, sustainability events and volunteer-focused events.
Monitors webpages to ensure content is up-to-date.
Manages digital signage with content creation and asset management
Creates and schedules email communications and invitations to reach the campus and community in a timely manner.
Posts on art galleries’ Instagram account about art exhibitions, opening receptions and art-making activities on a regular basis with photos and reels.
Branding and Design
Adheres to university brand guidelines and demonstrates a knowledge of brand theory and the importance of branding within an organization.
Communicates brand decisions and guidelines effectively.
Performs graphic design tasks related to the promotion of departmental activities, with collateral such as posters, flyers, digital signs, calendar entries, webpages, targeted emails and social media posts.
Written Communications
Creates content through effective written communications following Associated Press Style. Content creation might include web content, press releases, marketing sell copy, storytelling, email promotions and social media content.
Photo and Video Asset Management
Manages the acquisition and organization of photos and video related to departmental marketing and activities.
Other Duties
Assists in securing, purchasing and creating paid advertisements, as-needed.
Facilitates media interviews with departmental directors and staff, as-needed.
Advises Community Engagement departments on their social media content, as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, a related field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three years of progressive experience working with a team, agency and/or clients in marketing, communications, publications, graphic design or a related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work within a brand and enforce brand standards.
Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Pre-press knowledge to prepare files for printing.
Demonstrated high attention to details – both in design fundamentals and written communications.
Ability to construct organized strategic plans.
Ability to effectively handle multiple ongoing projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Management and/or project management level experience in marketing and communications.
Experience working in a marketing or communications role at a university or academic institution.
Experience creating and maintaining brand guidelines, resource libraries, designed templates and project intake systems.
Design portfolio, with demonstrated expertise in a variety of mediums.
Journalistic experience, writing in the inverted pyramid style.
Basic HTML coding skills.
Experience updating webpages in WordPress.
Ability to design or contribute to the design of a dynamic website homepage.
Ability to write in Associated Press Style and follow written university style guidelines.
Photography and video skills with an eye for quality results and artistic style.

This role will report to a point person who will also serve as guidance and support.
This position allows alternate work location per TAMU guidelines.
The person in this role will be required to attend occasional in-person meetings in College Station, Texas, while most other duties can be performed remotely.
This position is security sensitive.
