Hiring Unit:
Redpath Museum

Position Summary:

  • Conduct workshops animation activities using existing content and materials provided.
  • Offer guided tours using already developed scripts.
  • Work with student volunteers, indoors and outdoors, for tabling activities using existent content and material.
  • Conduct interactive presentations, indoors and outdoors, focusing on an assigned subject.
  • Gallery presence and interaction with the public.
  • Engage visitors interact with visitors, provide information and answer their questions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to ensure visitor satisfaction.
  • Ensure Museum’s open and close procedures are respected on weekends.
  • Coordinate with manager on-site.
  • Learn and memorize content relating to the museum history, the collections and public programming.
  • Must be available to work on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Asset: Undergraduate degree in a field of Museology, Anthropology, Biology, Geology or History

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a museum public program
  • Must be fluent in French and English
  • Ability to deliver informative and engaging tours that cater to different learning styles
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with visitors and colleagues
  • Customer-service oriented attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to ensure visitor satisfaction
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with diverse audiences
  • Ability to handle unexpected situations with professionalism and tact

Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.
