The Communications and Public Engagement Department of the City of Georgetown is offering one (1) internship position for summer 2026. The intern will help develop social media content related to City services/projects, as well as learn about the other functions of the Communications and Public Engagement Department, including assisting with video production, writing news releases, and other communications projects. Applicants must submit three (3) writing samples to be considered for this position.
The City is seeking candidates with skills and experience in writing and communication to assist the Communications and Public Engagement Department with social media, video production, writing news releases, and communication projects.
The intern will help draft social media and marketing materials for various platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Assists with video production, writing news releases, and helping with other communication and public engagement projects.
Proofreads draft communications and provide feedback.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
Junior/Senior pursuing a four (4) year Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in the following fields of study: communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with social media platforms.
Ability to write clear concise messaging.
Ability to write in journalistic style.
Knowledge of AP Style preferred.
Ability to communicate via email is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is preferred but not required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

EMPLOYMENT TESTING
Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing, criminal background investigation and driving record check.
SCHEDULE: This position offers 20 hours per week for the summer (May-August), as five (5) half days per week.
Anticipated Start/End Date: May 18 - August 14, 2026
Hiring Range: $17.50, hourly.
