Role Summary
As a pivotal member of the Commercial Portfolio Leadership Team, the Commercial Portfolio & Operations Director is entrusted with shaping the future of Pfizer’s commercial medicines and operations in the UK. Reporting to the Commercial Portfolio TA Lead UK, this leader drives strategic and operational excellence, championing innovation and collaboration across OnePfizer and responsible for delivering financials for the diverse portfolio they lead.
- Ownership of delivering revenue and IBT commitments for the Commercial Portfolio, managing approximately £45 million across 35 brands.
- Define and execute the strategic and operational direction for the portfolio. Lead the creation and delivery of the Pfizer operating plan and unlock partnerships across channels and customers to drive sustainable access.
- Champion portfolio management, contracting strategy, and ensure supply continuity, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders such as NHS and DHSC.
- Inspire cross-functional teams to deliver operational brilliance across commercial supply and contracting capabilities. Embed rigorous process oversight to guarantee reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure UK distribution approaches meet the evolving needs of One Pfizer, customers, and patients—now and in the future. Develop strategies that are recognized as unique selling points, unlocking commercial advantages over the market.
- Serve as the face of Biopharma UK for external vendor partnerships with UK Distribution partners, building relationships that strengthen Pfizer’s reputation and reach.
- Lead strategies to ensure the sustainability of medicines post-patent, providing specialist support and innovative commercialization options that secure long-term value for patients and the business.
Role Responsibilities
- Maximize the portfolio to deliver our financial commitments.
- Ensure effective management and growth of the medicine portfolio, ensuring delivery of financial targets and sustainable profitability across diverse therapy areas.
- Lead Operating Plan delivery from annual review through to LE; implementing effective monthly reviews to support and enhance plan delivery.
- Drive commercial excellence by evolving go-to-market strategies, brand segmentation, leveraging channel and customer opportunities, and expanding into new market segments, including Non-NHS customers.
- Oversee portfolio lifecycle management and contracting strategies, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders e.g. Commercial Procurement Managers, Medical, Finance, Legal, Regulatory to secure SME and resources which unlock opportunities.
- Work with GSC UK & Global teams to ensure forecast accuracy, equitable UK supply, enable accurate external reporting (as required) and ensure continuity of patient access.
- Ensure all activities and decisions align with company policies, SOPs, Pfizer values, and global regulatory guidelines.
Commercial Capabilities & Supply: Operational Excellence
- Lead XF monthly ‘Operational Excellence’ forum across GSC & Commercial Portfolio.
- Embed efficient and effective governance and processes which enable oversight for complex processes, where accountability spans multiple teams and reporting lines.
- Support LSP Monthly KPI meetings – sharing the commercial needs into GSC & Vendors.
- Lead SCC for UK; critical One Pfizer Supply Chain forum support. Enable sharing of best practice across UK, policy approval for evolving approaches and launch support.
- Be the commercial decision maker for non-standard / outside of policies approaches; receiving & assessing GSC proposals with commercial impact e.g. credit policies & seeking SCC/CMF approval if required.
- Support continued development of customer service interactions to ensure adherence to ABPI Code.
Commercial Capabilities & Supply: Future Approaches
- Understand portfolio current/future (and if required) facilitate supply approach changes to support.
- Anticipate & influence external supply needs and market evolution to ensure organizational preparedness.
- Identify, scope and project lead implementation of critical transformation and continuous improvement supply initiatives.
- Lead commercial input and leverage at quarterly strategic vendor partnership reviews, sharing commercial focus in order to ensure joint priorities align to needs of Patients, Customers & Pfizer.
- Develop and define the strategic priorities in the medium/long term based on the needs of Pfizer PBG. Partner with Pfizer procurement and co-leading with GSC Request for Proposals (RFP) process.
Strategic External Engagement
- Act as an ambassador for Pfizer, developing relationships with relevant key pharmacy bodies e.g. CPE, etc.
- Lead the conversation on the creation and maintenance of a sustainable marketplace for products within the One Pfizer portfolio; delivering value for Pfizer, Customers and Patients e.g. DHSC.
- In collaboration with GSC be Commercial lead for vendor partnerships with LSP’s, supporting GSC lead to ensure contractual KPI compliance, operational excellence and navigate process changes.
Commercial Sustainability Leadership
- Provide organizational support for sustainability and commercialization initiatives e.g. Debranding.
- Provide SME support for brands navigating from Launch through to LOE e.g. Launch support, APA to commercialization, LOE’s.
Innovation & Technology
- Collaborate across industries and with external partners to scope, resource and implement transformative initiatives e.g. Identifying market opportunities, streamlining supply excellence approaches.
- Work with Global teams to influence priorities, leverage opportunities and ensure programmes enhance UK capabilities.
