New Leaf Energy is seeking a Commercial Associate to join our team! This individual will play a key role in supporting offtake origination, market analysis, and commercial strategy across the company’s utility-scale renewable energy portfolio. This role blends financial modeling, commercial analytics, market intelligence, and origination support. The ideal candidate brings strong quantitative skills, a working knowledge of U.S. power markets, experience with PPAs or structured power products, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

This position may be filled out of our Boston, MA, Lowell, MA, Chicago, IL, Oakland, CA and Troy, NY offices. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two out of every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and are free to work from the office or home on other days.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Own and maintain financial models related to PPAs, tolling agreements, hybrid solar-storage structures, and merchant revenue forecasts;
  • Support the creation and organization of detailed data rooms, marketing materials (Confidential Information Memorandums etc.) and external facing presentations;
  • Track and engage in communications with internal stakeholders and external clients (project buyers and power/capacity offtakers);
  • Contribute to specialized modeling exercises including Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), RA/ELCC analysis, and augmentation optimization;
  • Collaborate with Project Valuation Group on early stage pipeline valuation;
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of legal transaction documents including LOIs, Power Purchase Agreements and Membership Interest Purchase Agreements (MIPAs);
  • Track and synthesize competitive intelligence including utility and corporate procurement trends, pre-RFP requirements, shortlist processes, bid fees, and bid structures;
  • Maintain internal databases on PPA pricing, commercial terms, active market participants, potential buyers, procurement targets, and regional policy drivers;
  • Help build and refine proposal narratives, pricing strategies, and off-taker presentations;
  • Any other duties, as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes.   • Minimum 2 to 4 years’ experience working at a renewable energy IPP or developer, with a focus on financial modeling, origination or M&A;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Business or a related field;
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills required.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Project finance modeling and power markets analysis experience;
  • Knowledge of energy or renewable energy development and finance;
  • Ability to analyze financial models and understand the impact of various key drivers.

Compensation

New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership.  We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.

Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position is $108,520 - $129,280. The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 10% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience. Our office locations in Lowell, Boston, Oakland, and Chicago all carry geography-based upward adjustments to the base pay range.
