Grand Canyon University!  One of Arizona’s leading institutions of higher learning. Located in the Valley of Sun in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, GCU is a regionally accredited, private, nondenominational Christian University. Grand Canyon University’s Event Services is seeking a Commencement Event Coordinator.

Position Summary/Purpose:

Working under general guidance, the Commencement Event Coordinator,

supports commencement operations with a primary focus on high-volume student and guest communication, registration management, and participant support. This role serves as a central point of contact for commencement inquiries and assists with administrative and event-related processes.

What you will do:

  • Serve as a central point of contact for commencement participants through high-volume phone and email communication.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and professional responses to inquiries regarding commencement registration, and ceremony logistics.
  • Deliver a high level of customer-service-oriented support to students and guests.
  • Maintain professionalism and composure while handling time-sensitive or sensitive participant concerns.
  • Perform data entry, updates, and reporting related to commencement registration platforms.
  • Maintain accuracy and completeness of participant records and documentation.
  • Assist with tracking, verification, and processing of commencement-related information.
  • Assist the Commencement Event Manager with logistical preparation and execution of commencement ceremonies.
  • Support event setup, breakdown, and on-site operational needs as assigned.
  • Coordinate assigned event-related tasks, materials, or resources under manager direction.
  • Help monitor event activities to ensure participant needs and operational requirements are met.
  • Provide general event support across commencement cycles as needed.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and participant needs, particularly during peak commencement periods.
  • Work varying schedules including evenings, weekends, and event dates as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a discipline related to communications, marketing, hospitality, business administration, or similar program from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar or related capacity such as event support, customer service, administration coordination, or student services.
  • An equivalent combination of work experience and education may be substituted upon supervisor’s approval.
  • Demonstrated ability of self-motivation, ability to manage high-volume and effective communication, and detailed processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in deadline-driven and event-driven environments
  • Must pass pre-employment background investigations.
